I don't get the feeling you are reading my posts. You're acknowledging that they exist, but you're not truly understanding them. If the person that sold it to you did not pay it off it is not only permanently carrier locked to AT&T but it also is restricted to the account that is financing the phone.

So again it's a very expensive iPod. You cannot use it with cellular. You cannot unlock it for use on a different service provider and you cannot even use it on AT&T or cricket or consumer cellular because it's restricted to the AT&T account that is financing the phone

You got scammed. If you can get your money back do so

To be completely clear, AT&T won’t tell you anything about the phone, because you’re not the person who had the AT&T account.  The only information you can get is what comes up when you use the unlocking portal.

If it’s not paid off, you can’t find out the balance, or pay it off

If it’s been reported lost or stolen, and blacklisted, you can’t get it removed from the blacklist

If it’s still under someone else’s account, you can’t find out who’s account, or contact them to remove it.

If the phone isn’t eligible for unlocking because it doesn’t meet these requirements, or any of the other unlocking requirements, the phone won’t be unlocked.  If the phone isn’t unlocked, you can’t use it with any other carrier besides AT&T (if it’s blacklisted, you can’t use it with any carrier).

The fact that the phone looked new in the box doesn’t mean a thing.
