We're happy to help with your unlock request, @mahnaz

Please review the general unlock requirements we shared above to ensure you're eligible for a device unlock.

Once you submit your request, it'll need to be confirmed. The confirmation email is usually received within minutes of submitting the request. If you don't see the email in your inbox, check your spam and junk folders. If it's not in either of those folders, please wait an hour and submit another unlock request.

For additional information regarding this process, review the post we shared earlier on this thread.

Thanks! Keep us updated on how this works for you.

Glad you reached out for help with this matter, chandlerj

AT&T offers reduced device pricing to customers who enter into a service agreement with AT&T for a contracted period of time (1 or 2 years). AT&T locks devices in order to recover costs and to control theft of devices. By offering locked devices in association with a contract or installment agreement, we are able to subsidize the cost of the device for customers up front.

All AT&T devices are locked by the OEM. If you paid the full retail price, you may request an unlock code. As dwill05 mentioned, we can send you unlock instructions upon request, provided that we can reasonably obtain them from the manufacturer and that you meet the requirements below:

  • The device must be designed for use on, and locked to, the AT&T wireless network.
  • It must not be reported lost or stolen.
  • It is not associated with fraudulent activity.
  • All the device's service commitments and installment plans are completed and all early termination fees are paid in full.
  • The device is not active on a different AT&T customer's account.

Note: Devices purchased on an installment plan and prepaid devices have active-service related requirements. Learn more about device unlock eligibility

As @dwill05 and @formerlyknownas mentioned, you don't have to have an active AT&T account to unlock your device. Just follow these steps:

  • Select NO on the device unlock portal if you are a non-AT&T customer> enter the IMEI number associated with your device> follow the prompts to submit your request.

Check out AT&T Device Unlock Help - Solutions & FAQS for more information regarding this process.

Phones sold by AT&T are locked to AT&T, and won’t be unlocked unless they meet eligibility requirements, one of which is that the phone is paid off.  If the phone wasn’t paid off, it won’t be unlocked.

You can request an unlock yourself.  Don’t need to have an account or be a customer.

You can try requesting as an non-customer which will not ask you for that information. It's likely you will be denied. The phone will work on AT&T prepaid, or any AT&T mvno if it remains locked

If you bought a prepaid phone and used it on the postpaid service, the phone will not be unlocked. It must have been used on the PREPAID service for 6 continuous months before it will be unlocked.

What email are you talking about?  If it’s the email with the confirmation link after you submitted an online request, that has nothing to do with whether the phone is eligible for unlocking or not.  It’s simply to confirm that you made the request.  If you didn’t get the email for confirming, then either the email address was incorrect, or it was blocked or diverted as spam or junk mail by your mail provider.
