Unlocking New iPhone 13PM That is Paid in Full
I have been an at&t customer for 9 years now but it’s the first time I order a new phone from their website (usually I buy it from Apple directly). Anyway, I received the phone on Monday and found out that it’s “SIM Locked” although I paid the full price of the phone with no upgrade program no contact or discounts or anything of sort. I’m not planning to leave at&t but I do travel and want to be able to use local SIM in my fully paid phone!
I was able to initiate an unlock request on Wed and still waiting for the verdict.
I guess my question is did this happen to anyone else and will the unlock request go through without issues or will there be a struggle. Because if it’s not going to be unlocked I’d rather send it back to them since I’m still in the 14 days period and get another one from Apple.

Thank you for being a valued AT&T customer, @Dr_Aasem! We can provide you with the information you need to unlock your phone.
Currently, in order for a device to be eligible for unlock, it must meet these requirements including being active on the AT&T network for at least 60 days.
Since you're still within the BRE (Buyers Remorse Exchange) period, you may want to return the phone and purchase it unlocked directly from Apple. However, please be advised, as @lizdance40 shared, there is a $55 restocking fee for devices returned within the BRE.
We hope this info helps and that you enjoy the rest of your day!

No it won’t be unlocked. AT&T doesn’t sell unlocked phones and the requirements are 60 days service before it’s eligible for unlock.

You still have to wait until the 14 day return window has expired. You may still have a problem and have to wait until the pending approval has timed out.

@Constructive Though the 60 days was for new customers and after the 14 day return window has expired for fully paid phone.

If you’ve only had the phone for less than 14 days, then it’s note going to be unlocked. As @Constructive said, there are minimum active service requirements that must be met. Doesn’t matter whether you paid in full or not, and as also previously noted, AT&T does not sell unlocked phones. It’s been this way for a number of years. In any case, even if the minimum service requirements weren’t there, AT&T won’t unlock any phone still within the return period.
You may as well return it and get one from Apple.

As @Fl_retire and @dwill05 wrote, you can't unlock until after return period.
If you return to AT&T there's a $55 restock fee.

Thank you all for your replies. Would you advise me to wait until after 14 days and submit another request to unlock it, or just return it and buy another one from Apple?
In one hand there’s the aforementioned restocking fee and the inconvenience of waiting for a new phone, and on the other the risk of being denied the unlock after the 14 day period has lapsed. Thank you agin for all your answers and advise.
