Unlocking My Phone
I bought a brand new iPhone at an AT&T Store in March 2020 because my previous phone got stolen, and in April, I tried to switch carriers and transferred my number to another company. I didn't realize that my phone would be locked as I bought it from AT&T and not directly from an Apple store, and now I'm concerned that I won't be able to have a functioning prepaid account on either carriers.
Would it be possible to either unlock my device, given my circumstances, or restore my previous number and account with AT&T if I transferred back carriers? Any help would be huge!

It can be unlocked if it meets all requirements to unlock. You request unlocks here: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/. Your phone probably does not yet qualify. If you activated it on prepaid, you need to use it on prepaid for 6 months before it will be unlocked. You can port your number back to ATT.

Hello, @sl1534,
Thank you for reaching out. Here are things to know about unlocking your device through AT&T. For a phone on a prepaid account to be unlocked, it must have prepaid service for six consecutive months.
Have a great week.
