I think that in such situations AT&T should get involved in communicating with both parties.
He doesn't have to contact me with the first owner, but just send the request to him.

@Tudor  Not gonna happen. AT&T, and probably any other provider, would say that the responsibility of knowing what you are purchasing and from whom falls onto you. And, if the original owner does not have an active AT&T account, then that could be considered an invasion of privacy. This is the problem with purchasing a phone from the internet or from a third party that you can't contact. You just never know if it's stolen, jail broke, not paid off, etc.
