Trying to carrier Unlock old iPhone 6. ATT account no longer exists.

I am trying to unlock an iPhone 6 so that I can activate it for Google Fi. When I try to insert my SIM Card, it says that the phone is carrier locked. I have tried making an unlock request on att.com, but it says that the IMEI number is not for an AT&T phone. This is the IMEI number: (Edited per community guidelines). This phone was my friends old phone before he himself switched to Google Fi. His AT&T account has been closed down for years and no longer exists. The phone has been factory reset and setup with my iTunes account successfully, but I cannot use this as a phone because I can't get it to recognize my SIM card. Any help would be appreciated, I would hate to turn this thing into e-waste, since it still functions fairly well and it would make a good backup phone.

Hello @c_lashwa,

We hear you, and we would like to help you with device unlock.

Please ensure that the device meets the below unlock requirements:

  • You must wait 60 days from purchase date (Installment Plan pay off & Pay in Full).
  • Not reported as lost or stolen or involved with fraud.
  • Account is not past due if less than 30 days.

You can submit a request a device unlock using the link:  https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/. Once you submit the request, we will review the details and help you further with unlocking the device.

The device meets all of these requirements. The problem is every time I try to enter the Imei number, it says that it doesn't belong to an AT&T account. This is because that account no longer exists. Like I said before, my friend that gave me this phone switched carriers, so his account has been closed. I still need help to unlock this phone.

iPhone 6? Or a 6S.

The oldest iPhone that will work on Google Fi is the iPhone 6s. They do not accept the iPhone 6. I don't know why, not my company, not my rules

According to fi's website, your phone has to run iOS 13 or newer. I guess the iPhone 6 does not run iOS 13
