Trading on phone question for $1000 credit
Hi,
‘’I want to trade in my 13 Pro Max for the 14 Pro Max. I’m a bit confused.
So first day, I pay $~96 tax
When I receive my phone I pay one time $35 upgrade fee? Due on 1st bill ( Due Only on 1st bill ) very confusing cause 1 line says due on 1st bill does it means there will be following fees? Then another line says Due only on 1st bill
Then $2.78 due monthly and I receive credit within 3 bills. So that means the first ~3 months I have to pay $30.56 a month until they credit me? So the 1st time they credit me, I would assume they credit me $83.34 because they didn’t credit me for 3 months?
Also, since it’s over 36 months. What if I want to upgrade again when the iPhone 15 is out? Am I stuck with the 14 until I pay off the 36 months? That means I have to wait until the iPhone 17 is out? Or I can upgrade to the 15 but I would have to pay off the remaining fee on the 14 and they don’t consider using that fee to pay for the 15? Like I have to pay off the remaining fee on the 14. Then the 15 I have to pay another $100 over 36 months?
Also, I have ATT Uverse internet and I have ATT wireless ( 2 lines ). I was promised that I will be charged only $90 for 2 lines + tax because I am a good customer with ATT Uverse home internet after ~3 - 4 months. But I have been with ATT for a year now and my bill is still $130 for 2 lines which is too much!
I even spoke to the sales department before the order and many months after the order with the same person ( Mary ). I even spoke to the sales department manager after a few months after I spoke to Mary and both of them said yes and promised I will get the $90 + tax for my wireless and get all my money back for the months that I have paid $130+ for just two lines and to this day, I got nothing back and my bill is still $130+
I don’t like this much and have thought of quitting ATT. But what is keeping me is possibly ATT’s upgrade program… If things don’t go well. I might just move on to a cheaper and quality provider in the future

The $35 upgrade fee is one time only.
Correct.
If you want to upgrade before the 36 month installment plan is complete, you would need to pay off the 14 first, that means losing any remaining credits. If there is a trade in offer for whatever new phone you buy, you can then trade in the 14. Otherwise, you will just the full price for whatever the new phone costs. That’s only if you buy from ATT. You could buy directly from Apple and the installment plan and credits for the 14 would continue.

1. Sales taxes due upfront per your state law.
2. Upgrade fee will appear on the bill with first installment. ($35)
3. You can only trade in your iPhone 13 if it is paid off 100% in order to take advantage of the promotion offered for credits on the iPhone 14. If you want to upgrade at 50%, you have to pay up till the 18th payment as a "pay to upgrade". No promotion for early upgrade. When you upgrade early, your remaining payments on your phone or waived, and any credits you might have received for a previous promotion will also stop.
4. You would have to enroll in AT&T Next Up for an additional $6 per month in order to upgrade early next year. Since installments are 36 months, not 24.
5. 2 lines on unlimited data start at $120 for start unlimited.
6. The 25% off deal is for fiber internet customers who switch to AT&T Wireless, purchase phones on unlimited data plans. Does this describe you?
7. If AT&T is upgrade program is what keeps you with at&t, then your trust (and money) is misplaced.
You could be doing Apple's, iPhones every year program. Granted you will pay for your phones, but then you can use whatever service provider and plan you like including prepaid service which costs substantially less.
Based on your original post I don't think you understand what the limits are to upgrade early, and to upgrade with the promotions that are published on AT&T's website.
If you are currently paying for your iPhone 13 on installments, you cannot participate in the current promotion unless you pay it off.
You cannot possibly be eligible to upgrade early even if you have been paying the $5 next up fee every month because you have not yet reached your 18th payment.

I like how much efforts you have put in to clarified my confusions and questions!
I spoke to the sale department before moving to ATT wireless and internet. I used to have T-Mobile and Comcast internet.
I spoke with Mary for a while and she said since I am using ATT internet as well.. I will get 25% off on my ATT wireless.. which comes to $90 + tax. She said it takes a few months before the discount kicks in.. and any amount that I paid more than the $90 + tax will be credit back to my account...
After over 4 months and I didn't see the account. I contacted Mary and ATT and even spoke to the sales department manager.. he even said that I will get the discount and there was something wrong that was why I didn't get the discount...
After I spoke with him... now it's been a year and still no discount... I still have the conversation between me and Mary in email...
I used to have the manager's phone number too but I deleted it cause I was thinking what if he left the company and the nuber doesn't work anymore...
After the xperiences... I am very frustrated and displeased in ATT so I thhought who cares I just delette their contacts and move on to a different provider when I can...
I greatly appreciate your lengthy but clear repsonses to help me so much though!

You're welcome.
If your intention is to move on from AT&T as soon as possible, you do not want to upgrade, especially with a promotion that requires you to stay for 3 years. Stick with your current phone until it no longer works for you and then upgrade through Apple, not a service provider.
