I am not receiving text messages from a friend who has a Samsung Galaxy phone. I have an IPhone, model 3

iPhone use Apple's iMessage system on top of AT&T's SMS text messaging. But SMS might be turned off, check in Settings - Messaging and make sure "Send as SMS" option is enabled. You might need to restart your phone if you're still having issues with that.
