Is this text from AT&T Free Message a spam text?

I received a text from 746-118-88. The msg is below.

AT&T Free Message: Your temporary PIN is (I erased the PIN)

This is spam right? How do I stop receiving these texts?

That's right.  The number that it reportedly comes from, (746) 118-88, is the same one that AT&T uses.  The spammers are apparently spoofing that number.  That's why we need a technological solution to identify callers for who they are, not who they spoof themselves to be.  If the actual number is not the reported number, then it should be so flagged so that we can block spoofed numbers.

This is actually coming from AT&T mobile Security app. Sign into the app and the text will stop.

So apparently the texts weren’t being sent randomly.  I’ve noticed that whenever I get on a Wi-Fi network, it triggers the app to send me another pin.  Lol!  Glad this thread delivers and helped me figure out that the stupid AT&T app was sending me  pin!

I thought that it was the My AT&T app and I couldn't log in.  No I see that it's the Mobile Security app. I launched it and it sent me a new PIN.  Logged in with the PIN and saw alert that I have outdated system software.  Well duh.  I would have appreciated a message other than receiving PIN notification messages in the middle of the night.  I hope that this fixes the problem.

For about 3 weeks nows I've been getting from 3 to 5 texts daily that are evidently spoofing the number AT&T uses to text you when you forget your password or need a new PIN. They are all the same except for the fake temp PIN they send:

<#> AT&T Free Message: Your temporary PIN is 175531
|OpMWSEeQxt

I contacted AT&T when the first one came because I thought that someone was trying to get into my account. But the AT&T agent assured me these messages were not originating from AT&T. But when I changed my password and received confirmation in the same text thread, I realized they are spoofing AT&T's number. So I can't block this number in case AT&T really sends me a message.

I forwarded a few of the texts to AT&T's phishing reporting number but the automated response is that these come from AT&T. I know that other people are getting these phishing texts as well. Any way to do anything about this?

Oh My Gosh.

While I'm (very) irritated that the rep I spoke to didn't realize these were coming from AT&T, thanks for the solution. I requested one more code, entered it in the app, and I expect now they will stop coming in.

I have been receiving these ‘temporary PIN’ texts several times a day for weeks-ever since I contacted ATT Customer Service. They are coming from 746-118-88. I have tried responding with STOP and I have changed my password on my ATT account. What else can I do to stop these?
