Refurbished phone sold as new

Two years ago I bought my iPhone 7 Plus from my local ATT shop. Today I just had my battery  and the piece that vibrates replaced. the technician was curious about when I had my phone last worked on because the plates were missing and there were items moved around that shouldn’t have been touched. This is why my vibration started going nuts. The only problem is I HAVE NOT HAD ANY WORK DONE ON THIS PHONE! I paid for a new device and received a refurbished one instead. I did not shell out that much money for a refurbished iPhone.

Hello @Sidneyw63

Thank you for posting. Corporate AT&T stores don't stock or sell refurbished phones, was it a corporate AT&T store? We have created and assigned a case for you and one of our specialists will be reaching out shortly to help with whatever we can.

Thanks,

Dmitriy

HI, Wondering what ever came of this situation for you.  I am in a similar situation and AT&T is telling me there is nothing they can do for me and that the technician who told me they replaced my cracked thought-to-be-original screen must have been mistaken. That it is impossible that this is a thing.  I feel like I am being gaslit right now.

I am in exactly the same situation. I purchased an IPhone X in 8/2018. It wouldn't hold a charge and Apple was going to replace the battery. The noticed that it had been worked on or was refurbished and declined service, giving me the documentation leading to that decision. I have never had work done on this phone! I went to the ATT store in Pittsburgh only to be told repeatedly that "Att does not sell refurbished phones," despite that I was holding one in my hand in exactly the condition as when I purchased it. The employee was directing me to Apple or to the insurance company but would take no responsibility that, in good faith, I purchased a new phone there only to receive a refurbished one. This is not ok. I am still trying to resolve.
