Receiving a call from my own mobile # and my name as caller ID

I have received a call in my cellular phone showing my name in the caller ID and my own cellular # . As I answered in silence, I heard a recorded  "good bye" but they didn't hang.  Googleing  about this situation, I found about spoofing, suggesting to report to my telephone company.  Do you have any procedures when something like this arises?

Hi @dexatek

Seeing your number or a similar number to yours is known as spoofing. It is a way that scammers attempt to get you to answer your phone. The number can look like a legitimate business line or even a friends number. The Federal Trade Commission is aware of this, as it affects many carriers, and has more information about Caller ID spoofing scams on its website: https://soc.att.com/2XBDy3m.

Be careful who you share information with especially if you did not initiate the call.

To help protect yourself, download our Call Protect App. With the app you can:

  • Automatic Fraud Blocking1: Detects and blocks calls from likely fraudsters before they reach you.
  • Suspected Spam Warning2: Alerts you when you get a call from a suspected spam source.
  • Manual Call Blocking3: Lets you block unwanted calls.

You will find more information about spoofing by visiting our Cyber Aware page. Hope this helps!
