Receive SMS code via email

I have an AT&T phone that’s locked to the carrier. I have to wait 6 months to submit an unlock request. The unlock request will send an SMS code to my phone number to complete the request. In my situation, I won’t be in the USA during that time so my carrier won’t be in service. Is it possible to receive SMS codes via email instead of phone number so I can unlock my phone without having an AT&T line in running?

Hello Hamood232, let's get you some information for Device Unlock Request.

AT&T customers will receive a unique Text that can be used to check the status of your unlock request without the need of entering your IMEI Number or Request Number. Non-AT&T customers will receive an email and must follow steps 2-4 above.

AT&T Prepaid phone must have paid service for at least six months. You must submit your unlock request using the most recent version of the AT&T Device Unlock app. Visit our Unlock Support page for the full requirement list.

You can also read this great AT&T Forums article for unlocking devices.

An unlock request does not send an SMS code. You receive a verification email when you put in an unlock request, not a text.

To be clear, it’s not simply waiting 6 months.  You need to have 6 months of active service on the AT&T network for a phone with prepaid service to be eligible for unlocking.
