Looks like you haven't paid off your device yet. Follow these steps to pay off your installment plan

Dear friends or AT&T Customer Service,

I have got an iPhone 6s from USA whose my sister brought to Brazil. In USA it worked well with AT&T sim card, but I am trying to unlock it and failed miserably all the time. When I try to use the AT&T webpage there is the message: "Looks like you haven't paid off your device yet. Follow these steps to pay off your installment plan. Then, wait 48 hours before you submit a new request."

But there is no installment plan to pay off, no debits, anything linked to the IMEI of the device when used in USA. It was used for my sister for years! Now, just because she gave me the phone and I am trying to use it, I cannot due to this message. At Apple Store they told to solve with AT&T. I am trying to contact AT&T, but there is no way, no support by chat unless I have a phone number, not email, and to call from here will cost a fortune! I read in many forums that this is commom to happen with many AT&T customers and even others carriers. And, worse.... AT&T does nothing to help.

May, someone, please help me solve this problem? How can I unlock my iPhone from Brazil? Or, may someone send me an email to contact Customer Service or someone who can help me? Thanks in advance.

If your sister is in the US, why not have her try to unlock it, or contact AT&T to find out what the issue is?  At least it would be easier and cheaper for her to contact AT&T.

Also, was the original owner of the phone and the one who bought it from a retailer?  If she bought the phone from another person, they may have never paid it off.

Thanks dwill05 for your answer!

My sister is here on vacation and is now using another carrier, and was using it routinelly as her phone. No bills to pay off or problems with AT&T. Before travel here, bought another new iPhone and brought this to use here. She went to Apple Store to unlock and everything was ok.

She is here now and have two options. Take the phone back to USA and complain at AT&T and leave their new one here (not fair! As she would like to keep the new one and is not guilty for the problem with AT&T). Or leave the iPhone here and try to solve at USA. But, if she did not get succesfull the phone will be here in Brazil, she in USA and send by Post is a problem around here. She doesn't have AT&T phone number anymore as she moved to another carrier.

That is why I would like to get the AT&T Customer Service email to try to solve while she is here. They maybe can check through their channels what happened inside the company. I've read many complaints of americans with the same problem, and try hard to solve without success. Even showing copy of all documents. Anyway, thank you for your help and suggestions!
