Is AT+T the Grinch in disguise? You took money from our account without our permission!

Hi.

ATT mistakenly took $1000 from our bank account through auto pay 4 days ago + now they say they are only able to provide us a credit to our ATT account not return the money they had no right to take! This was money my husband and I needed to buy Christmas presents for our children and family, not pay for future phone bills!

We have been loyal ATT customers since it was Bell Atlantic. Please help! This seems illegal! Do I need to call the Better Business Bureau, the police [Edited to comply with Guidelines]

Sorry for the mixup, BUT this is the AT&T community forum (not AT&T support).

I believe according to your terms and conditions, you are obligated to go to arbitration first (check it out for details).

Why?   ATT doesn't typically take money unless you have incurred a bill.

what does your account say?

We didn't owe anything and always pay our ATT bills on time. This is a mistake on ATT's part due to a mix up they had. If I go to Arbitration it could take months - by which time Christmas will be over.

Have you talked to your bank about disputing the charge? If you did not authorize the transaction you should be able to dispute it.

I'm not decreeing that you need to do arbitration, I'm saying I think you're obligated to (it's already been decided).

If you start some other process but then get bumped back to arbitration, won't that take even longer...??

I'd be tempted to tell the bank it was a mistake and you want a refund via the bank, the problem will be IF you bill was at the same time, now your bill won't be paid (you'll likely be late), I don't know if YOUR bank will do a partial dispute(?).

WARNING! If you are late it impacts some benefits like BOGOs, free phones and switcher offers (i.e. if you're late, you forfeit the credits).

@rorirobson Send a private message to @ATTMobilityCare with the details. Someone should get back to you within 2 business days. If what you say is all correct, I think they will get it fixed the quickest.
