iPhone XR voicemail "call failed"
I replaced my iPhone 6x with an iPhone XR and have not been able to get the voicemail going. Callers also can't leave messages. When I try to reset the passcode, it gets stuck in the "saving password" phase. When I attempt to access voicemail by tapping voicemail, I get "call failed" and the same happens when I press and hold 1. I tried the reset action found in other posts and no luck.

Can you dial your voicemail by going to the Phone app and holding down the number "1" until it dials out? That will let you set your voicemail passcode and greeting over the phone as opposed to the app. Then go back to the Visual Voicemail and try it again.

Already tried that - no joy. Pressing 1 and holding results in "call failed" also.

You'll need to call AT&T then. I'm guessing something got screwed up with the voicemail on the account when the new phone was activated.
