iPhone Unlock Help, IMEI does not Match ,Universal iPhone from BestBuy

Hi,

I bought a universal iPhone from BestBuy a few days before. 

And after I brought it home, I insert the AT&T sim card to that iPhone, and the phone is locked to AT&T.

I am an AT&T Prepaid user and have been used in this network for more than 6 months.

I've tried to unlock this phone at the AT&T unlock the portal several times, but the system kept saying the IMEI i input "doesn’t match an AT&T device".

Can anyone help with this?

Not sure why the IMEI isn’t registering in the database.  Might just be a delay thing.  But, if you’re thinking of getting it unlocked after buying it just a few days ago, the 6 month service requirement is for the particular device, not just how long you’ve been a customer.  If you’re using prepaid, you need 6 months of active service on that phone.  What you did/had with other phones doesn’t count.

Thanks for @dwill05 's answer, it is totally right. Today I tried to unlock it again, the AT&T database finally got my device registered.

And AT&T send me an email said I have to wait for 6 months.

Other things to notice, do not try to abuse the unlock request. AT&T will cut out your further unlock requests.
