Sorry, no one can help you. ATT will not unlock until the phone is paid off or the contract is completed.

Well, they are ready to help but they just need to speak with the owner..this is different situation because the phone damage and I believe they understand that. But my problem is with the seller, slow to response and never even reply my message for the past 3 days. I wish someone from AT&T will understand this and help out

@Olabank   They will not do that.   It’s not exactly a HIPPA thing, but ATT customer information is private.  It is most likely the customer is no longer with Att and won’t pay off the phone, or it was an insurance replacement.  It will never be unlocked.

This is between you and the seller.  ATT does not get involved with grey market.  You are on your own.

Actually I checked the imei before purchase and it was clean up till now...i talk to AT&T representative  on Facebook and they just ask me to ask the owner to make the request. Am just here To see if there is anything I can do in case I can't get hold of the seller as soon as possible. But everyone keep on saying no way or so...i like T-Mobile despite the fact they have strict unlocking policy, they always help out in this type of situation, from my past experience and others. AT&T should do better than this..

bottom line if the phone is under contract and the original owner is unavailable then it wont get unlocked, the owner of the phone will have to do it, if its under contract the previous owner must pay the existing balance before it will be eligable for unlock. As far as AT&T is concerned you dont own the phone and cannot legally hand over an unlock code just because you say its yours.Based on your photos it seems you bought a very poor condition phone off ebay for just over 20 bucks? if this is the case i doubt the original owner is willing to pay off the phone for the 20 bucks you paid him

I don't think so...even before I bid for it, he doesn't  reply message quickly like others do..buying it cheap doesn't mean it should be wasted. Did you know how much he owe on It? If you do please share with me. Like I say, is still under contract and you don't know if he still AT&T customer or not...all what I know is that, the imei of the phone still clean and not blacklisted which shows he still have active account with AT&T uptil now. I think, I will be waiting for his reply rather than allowing someone to call me cheap man...if not because I have problem with my motherboard, i will never go this way ok

im not saying your cheap but id be willing to bet the seller is and will not pay whats owed, i am just a customer same as you so i have no way of seeing whet he owes, and a clean imei just means it hasnt been reported lost or stolen  not that its clean and free of contract or NEXT obligations. If he owes on the phone then technically hes still a customer although maybe not current active or in good standing but as long as he has an outstanding contract at&t considers him a customer

When I bought it, I was taking a big risk because I don't know if it will work or not. Now that I have it and working perfectly on my phone...do you want me to throw it away without solution?  Put yourself in my position and see if I do something wrong or right...i check the imei before payment to make sure is clean, both carrier and icloud, and ask him if is the original owner which happen to be true. But my problem is communication with him. I hope he answer me one day

@Olabank  Not going to happen.   Most likely the seller was not the previous owner.  He has no interest in paying hundreds for a phone he sold for $23.

“Clean” means not blacklisted.  It does not indicate a phone can be unlocked as it will work well on ATT.

You assume total risk when you buy for parts on eBay.  eBay won’t even intercede on this sale.

You have a dandy music player, but cant use it  as a phone.

As far as I know, the seller name correspond with the name on the phone..apart from that, I know nothing...but people pay to unlock through third party, but I don't know much about it. Maybe someone can advice me on the next option.

You can buy premium unlock service on ebay for around $30. It can be unlocked if it isn’t black listed.

I’m pretty sure that the OP isn’t still looking for help that they asked for 3 years ago, so I’m guessing this post is just an advert for some service.

Also, the mention of an unlock code being sent is the first clue that the mentioned site may be a bit dodgy since iPhones don’t use unlock codes.
