Iphone 6S Plus - Unlocked?

I pre-ordered a 6S Plus and chose an ATT version (am an ATT customer). As I am paying the phone in full (no NEXT, no 2 yr contract), will the phone come unlocked so I can use it with other carriers when I travel overseas?

If not, will I be able to ask ATT to unlock it as soon as I receive the phone?

Since you selected the AT&T model, it will come pre-locked to AT&T.  If you wanted the carrier unlocked model, you should have selected that and it would have come unlocked, and you would not need to request AT&T to unlock it for you.

Thank you for the response. But, at this time, Apple doesn't have the completely unlocked "sim-free" version yet. Otherwise, I'd have chosen that.

Now that it will come locked to ATT, presumably ATT will process an unlock request right away as the phone is paid in full and no contract?

Take a look at the AT&T unlock policy.  If you get the phone and use it on your account before you request (and get) the unlock, then they will not unlock it right away.  They have a required delay before they will unlock and phone which is actively in use on an account based on the type of account.  If you want it unlocked right away, you would need to get it unlocked before you ever turn it on and connect it to the AT&T network.

Yes you can ask them to unlock the phone you are allowed 5 unlock per year. You already have a phone using so before you switch phones just tell them you are going traveling and you want to take the phone with you to use or you can call apple and tell them the same thing and they will unlock it for you. Best to use apple it's faster since all Att do is call apple also to get it unlock
