iPhone 6 LOCKED!

Hi guys,

Pretty frustrated - Apple have told me that my new phone has been locked to AT&T and ONLY AT&T are able to unlcok this phone yet I have been told toldthat my device is incompatible. Pretty sure I believe Apple over AT&T! Someone is definitely lying, might as well throw the phone away seeing as I am a UK customer and AT&T does not even work in UK!

Somebody suggest something, think I will sell to someone in the US instead if AT&T continue to give me ZERO explanation.

What do you mean by "told my device was incompatible"? Incompatible with what? Yes, it is quite possible that your phone is locked to ATT but unlocked versions of the iPhone 6 do exist. Why did you buy a locked phone? It may be possible for you to get the phone unlocked if you meet ATT's requirements. Go to https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/?#/ to see the unlocking requirements and to submit your request.

AT&T have told me that the phone was incompatible - with no further explanation. WHY are you the one asking me for an explanation when this is exactly WHY I started this thread! I have already gone through the process and it got declined yet I am requesting a further explanation as to why it is "incompatible with AT&T" yet Apple have CONFIRMED the device is LOCKED to AT&T. The device was purchased off an online retailer as unlocked whom are clearly at fault but refuse to refund. I would just like a further explanation as I cannot LIVE chat without being a customer of AT&T! Please HELP!

This is a customer to customer forum. You can get an honest answer here based on experience and knowledge of ATT.
Incompatible makes no sense to us.
More likely the IMEI number has been blacklisted because the phone is lost or stolen.
Run the number through Swappa's free IMEI checker. If the phone is blacklisted it would still be locked to ATT, but is not able to be used by any carrier.
If you purchased online, you can stop payment (dispute charge) on your credit card to pay pal account. eBay guarantees your purchase.

Finally, some sort of direction - Nope, phone certainly is not marked as stolen or lost - Swappa have confirmed! Still makes no sense as to why AT&T will not provide further explanation here.

Sorry, you did not say in your original post who told you the phone was incompatible. Is that the response you got from the unlock request? In any event, I have no idea what that means. As @lizdance40 suggests, it may mean your phone is blacklisted. If that is the case, I don't think there is anything ATT can do for you.

I have logged another ticket for the unlock and I am sure I will receive the same response but will quote it below if that is the case. I followed out the instructions provided by @lizdance40 and Swappa states that my phone is:

Activation Status Assumed Clear
Device appears to be activation ready.

Do not see what the issue is here, Apple are certain the phone is locked to AT&T

Assume that you have already tried the unlock portal? That's the only way to unlock the phone.

No one is doubting that you bought a phone that is locked to AT&T. Where did you buy it?

I don't think there is any question as to whether it is locked, the question is why won't ATT approve your request. Since you do not have access to chat, suggest you send a personal message to @ATTMobilityCare. They may be to help you sort this out.

Same response as before! How can I get a further explanation on this! It IS locked to the network as Apple have already stated.

Unfortunately, your unlock request was denied because:

The IMEI number **** you entered does not match a device compatible with the AT&T network.

I just checked the IMEI and it came back as invalid.
