iPhone 13 - Issues with Group MMS with iMessage and Android
I have a group text with two friends. One friend also has an iPhone, the other friend primarily uses an Android phone, but will occasionally text from her iPad, in which case the entire group switches to iMessage. Once she switches back to her Android, my phone will only continue to send it in iMessage. My phone will not switch back to SMS/MMS, but my other friend with the iPhone has no problems with it switching back and forth. They both have Verizon and I'm the only one with AT&T. The only way I can get it work again is to completely delete the text, make sure her iCloud email is deleted from her contact, delete her phone number altogether and re-enter it in her contact, and then start a new text message with her number input first so it establishes as a group SMS/MMS. This has never happened until I upgraded my phone back in June. It's a very temporary fix until it does it again in like a day or two and it's SO FECKING ANNOYING.

That’s not an ATT issue. One thing you can do is simply turn off iMessage when you don’t want the messages to go as iMessages. Unfortunately, even if you have “send as SMS” enabled, your phone won’t switch to SMS/MMS when all recipients are reachable via iMessage. It only does that if iMessage delivery fails. Something your friend can do is ensure she can only receive iMessages sent to her email address. In other words, she should ensure her phone number isn’t included in iMessage “send & receive” settings. You then just need to ensure you send only to her phone number when you want to send MMS. You might even consider building two contacts for her, one for SMS/MJS, one for iMessage.
