iPhone 12 Pro Losing cellular connectivity

After I turn off Wi-Fi to use only 5G or LTE my 12 Pro will say no service after several minutes and doesn’t come back until airplane mode is turned on and off. Anyone else? Version 14.1, on AT&T

Hey there @Wapes!

We want to look into why your iPhone 12 doesn't retain it's connection to the cellular network. Please reply to this message and verify your ZIP code so that we may investigate coverage in your area.

Looking forward to your reply.

@ATTHelp sorry I don’t know why my last comment didn’t post. But yea I did the troubleshooting, all it said was try turning the phone off and on. Try turning data, WiFi and airplane mode off and on.

whenever it loses cell network connection I have to toggle airplane mode and then it’ll search for the network again and connect. But this isn’t a permanent fix.

my wife’s 12 pro has the same issue.

Thank you for the clarity, @Wapes!

It may be that you will have to disable Wi-Fi Calling or cellular data and use one or the other exclusively. To use Wi-Fi Calling and disable cellular data while you're in one place such as your home or office follow these instructions:

  • Swipe down from the upper right corner of the screen to access the Control Center, then select the Cellular data icon.

To disable Wi-Fi and use cellular exclusively:

  1. From the home screen, select the Settings app.
  2. Select Wi-Fi, then select the Wi-Fi switch to turn on or off.
Note: To optimize battery life, turn Wi-Fi off when not in use.

Additionally, and if you haven't checked already, make sure your devices are updated with the latest software. Visit our Device Support tool, select your device's make and model, select System, then Software version. If an update is available you will want to follow the prompts to install the latest version.

We hope this info helps.

My wife and I are having similar issues with our iPhone 12 Pros losing signal. We have to turn on and off airplane mode for the phone to regain a cell signal. The issue seems to happen more often when moving (e.g., in a car driving or moving from WiFi to cellular or walking out of a building or house) but also occurs standing still (just not as much). I am in 43064 (Central Ohio). There are some reddit and MacRumor threads with lots of people experiencing similar issues on Verizon and AT&T. Surprised this hasn’t gotten more traction in the media.

And I have tried resetting my device, resetting my signal, everything. The only work around right now is to turn on and off airplane mode which is ridiculous.

Adding that I'm also having this issue and it's a major problem. I have an iPhone 8 so it's not limited to the iPhone 12. I've performed all recommended steps (reset the network, turned it on and off, checked for software updates, etc). The WiFi won't work unless I turn Airplane Mode off then on again.

The links in the posts above no longer link to diagnostic tools.

Dang it! I was hoping I didn’t see this but it’s really happening! I’ve been on the phone with AT&T for three nights in a row because “ You are not connected to the internet” or “The network has been interrupted” or “Please connect to the internet” ARGH!

I’m using a brand new, state of the art iPhone 12 with all the bells and whistles and data plan. I travel a lot so use use data instead of our Wi-Fi but my phone won’t connect to the Internet with my data!
The first night they helped me and got through the process and the guy slipped and said “yeah we’ve been having problems” and when I question him he said something about my data plan bThe second night I called for the same exact reason we troubleshooting and got through it. Last night when I tried to make several purchases on the Internet for my new home I had little or no Internet connection so I can’t support and this is what they said , “ supervisor supervisor will call you tonight or tomorrow or maybe tomorrow night“!!! So I just paid all this money for this iPhone 12 and an updated plan and all the bells and whistle and all the accessories and I’m maybe I’m gonna get a call tonight!
