Every unlock email I received stated to wait 24 hours. I would wait until tomorrow and try again. If it doesn't work, then contact AT&T.

I'm an AT&T customer and have been for over 10 years.  I've have wireless service, Uverse, and am switching over to the security system in a few weeks.

I upgraded my two iphone 5 to 6 last night.  I renewed the contract for two years.  I purchased the phones outright.  I've just been informed that I have to wait 14 days to unlock the two old 5 phones.

I leave for England on Thursday for the holidays.  I upgraded my phones so that we could give the old 5 phones to my parents.  It was the entire reason for upgrading.  I did this two years ago with the Iphone 4 and did not encounter any waiting period issues.

I have already spoken with a supervisor in customer service.  I understand the policy and I understand fraud prevention concerns.  I can verify who I am.  I'd like the two iphone 5 units unlocked by Thursday.  If I can't unlock them, I don't need the two new phones.  I need to get a resolution shortly and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Did you go through the unlock portal? If the iPhone 5 is out of contract, it can be unlocked. If you were doing an early upgrade, you would need to wait the 14 days. Go through the unlock portal and you should get the unlock. don't listen to reps. they don't always know.

This is a customer forum. While employees sometimes visit on their own time, their is no assurance they will see your post.

Are your parents going to activate the phones on AT&T? If so, they don't need to unlock, which is done if they are going to use the phones on another, compatible carrier.

You should always backup before doing anything that might erase all your data.
Icloud may or may not be enough to backup your phone. I don't trust it when switching devices and do a computer backup.
You should import all pictures and video from your camera roll to a computer.

Beyond that I am not entirely sure what you are doing. If you forgot the password lock, that is an apple issue and you should use apple forums for solutions. ( But restoring from a backup is the solution )

Thanks, Liz - I didn't realize this was customers only.  Parents use UK carrier so unlock is absolutely required - but I appreciate the advice!

Thanks for the reply and guidance - yes used unlock portal for two days.  It is not an early upgrade.  I'm 2 hours overdue for a call by customer service.  ARGH.  It's so frustrating - it's not like I'm asking for a favor, I bought and paid for these phones outright.  Anyway - sorry to vent and I appreciated your answer and suggestion.

I upgraded on 11/28/2014 and submitted an Unlock Code Request for my iPhone 5S that I upgraded from. I keep getting an email saying that I have to wait 14 days since my upgrade to be able to retreive the unlock code. Its been more than 14 days since I upgraded my phone!!
