How to unlock an Iphone

Have your cousin request the unlock. It it was replaced due to warranty or insurance they will have to provide this info.

First of all, sorry for my bad english, i'm not american.

I was at USA for the last two months for work and I bought 2 Iphones XR at BestBuy. (payed full price for the unlock devices, i got the fiscal document)

I never used the iphones at USA.

When I came back to my contry (Brazil), I've tried to use my local carrier, however it did not accepted my SIM CARD. 

I tried contact with Apple and they told me my US carrier should unlock my phone.

However I did not know which one was my carrier, since I never used a SIM CARD from USA and none came with device.

So I borrowed (already in Brazil) a prepaid SIM Card from a Friend that was traveling with me, from AT&T. Surprisingly it worked.

I was abble to log in to the Iphone, create itunes, icloud everything. (ofc I had no network area, because I'm at Brazil)

I've even payed for online third party service to check which carrier was locking my Iphone. And it said was AT&T.

I've also bought a Verizon SIM card to check if it would be abble to log in and activate my Iphone as the AT&T Sim card did. But it didn't, the Verizon Sim card had the same problem as the local carrier.

So I deduct that my phone is really locked by AT&T.

I even called apple, and they confirmed to me that the iphones are locked to AT&T

Now start my problem.

I've tried to submit a request for unlock my phone at AT&T website, however the following msg apears:

"Looks like the IMEI number you entered doesn’t match an AT&T device. Try entering it again. Dial *#06# on your mobile phone to make sure you have the right IMEI."

What's even stranger is that, another guy that was traveling with me had the same problem. But he was able to send the request for the unlocking and his phone is working normally now.

Can someone help me?

You’ll likely have to call AT&T and talk to advanced Technical Support to get them to unlock it.  When you put in the AT&T SIM card, it locked to AT&T because that’s how the Apple US Reseller Flex Policy works, but since you did this in Brazil, it never connected to, and got registered on, AT&Ts network, and that’s why the unlock portal doesn’t recognize it as an AT&T phone.

When I try to unlock my iPhone 7, I get sent in a loop of two or three pages, which are not helpful. I tried to get help from chat and it sent me back to those pages and cannot be opened again. I even turned my phone completely off and then on. The chat icon still refused to respond to me. I need to know, in better detail than Att gives, how to really unlock my phone. 

How can I tell if my iPhone 7 is one of the ones that does not have to be unlocked?

@Ladoraw You misunderstood. The ATT version of the iPhone 7 does not have CDMA, therefore CDMA does not need to be unlocked but the phone still needs to be unlocked to use on a different carrier. The only reason any phone doesn’t have to be unlocked is if it’s already unlocked.
