Full Price iPhone 6

Currently I am on an iPhone 5 which I preordered on release day in 2012 so i am elligable for an upgrade at this point. I plan on upgrading to a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

The problem is that since then I have switch my AT&T plan to the Family Share Plan and have been taking adavantage of the off contract pricing.

For the iPhone 6, I want to buy it completely at full price, not with NEXT or on contract. I have not found a way to preorder at full price through AT&T or through Apple online and be guarenteed it will work with the AT&T network. Will AT&T be offereing a full price iPhone for preorder?

As a sidetrack, does anyone know if the T-Mobile Contract Free iPhone 6/6+ works with AT&T straight from Apple or if i will need to take extra steps to unlock that device.

Thanks.

I don't think you can pre-order an iPhone 6 of any flavor from anyone yet.

I also haven't seen the list of models that will be offered.  The iPhone 6 will support more LTE bands so there will be fewer carrier-specific models.  For all we know, the T-Mobile and the AT&T iPhone could be the same.

If I were buying a full-price iPhone, I'd buy from Apple. I’d also wait a bit until Apple offers an unlocked version (AT&T won't), which will be the same cost as a full-price model locked to a carrier.

What do you have against NEXT?  Pre-ordering a NEXT plan iPhone thru Apple will not trigger an increase in your AT&T mobile plan cost.  If you buy a full price iPhone, you will get charged a $36.00 activation fee by AT&T, which they waive if you go the NEXT route.

One thing you can do with a new iPhone would be to purchase it using AT&T NEXT, then you can cancel the NEXT agreement and pay the balance in full.  It would seem that this would do what you are seeking, but I'm not sure, since you may have other reasons for not wantign to use NEXT.

Apple isn't doing preorders until 9/13 which is this Friday.  You can absolutely preorder an unlocked device from them.  at&t probably won't let you preorder an unlocked one however.

Thanks guys for the input.

I was never fond of NEXT due to the stipulation that once you paid your monthly installments you traded in the phone so that was the main thing turning me away. I am aware that NEXT 18 allows you to keep the phone at the end of the term so that may still be an option for me. One thing I wasn't aware of was that I could buy out the phone once the NEXT plan begins and that may actually be the path I will take. So thank you to the people that pointed that out.

As to the couple people who said that Apple will be allowing preorders of an unlocked iPhone on the 13th, I'm a little but confused. Apple did put up the ordering site(obviously not activated) and an unlocked phone is nowhere in site. The closest thing is the Contract Free T-Mobile iPhone that costs full price. Some guys over at MacRumors say that model will work no problem, some disagree. Traditionally Apple starts selling a completely SIM free iPhone a couple months after initially launch.

Thanks everybody.

As I understand the NEXT program, after you have make all the payments (20 or 24 depending which plan you sign up for)  the phone is yours.  It will still be locked to AT&T until you request it be unlocked.  If you want an unlocked iPhone, you will have to wait until Apple makes those available.
