Every time me and my brother text each other, our texts send to a random group chat and not the other person

when I send my brother a text, it shows up on his end that it is in a group chat. When he texts me back his response shows up in a group chat with many of his contacts.

Hey there noonsneeds, we're here to make sure your text messages get to the right place.

We'd like more details about this issue that's occurring, so please answer the following questions for us:

  • What type of phones are you and your brother using? This may be caused due to a difference in device manufactuers, if one of you have an Apple device and the other uses an Android device. Kowing this will also allow us to try detailed troubleshooting.
  • Are your and your brother's texts being sent to each other in existing group chats, or are new group chats being created when a text is sent? Knowing what exactly happens when a text is sent or recieved will allow us to research the potential cause of this further.
  • Is this happening for any of your other contacts or your brother's contacts, or is it only between you two? Knowing the scope of the issue will also help us research the cause and troubleshooting options to make this right.

We recommend you try turning group messaging off on you and your brother's devices. You can do this by going into your iMessage / Messaging app > Settings > Advanced / More Settings > Group Messaging / Conversation, toggling it off, and try sending individual texts to each other. You can see other troubleshooting steps on our device support page as well.

Please let us know if this helps, and share this information with us here.
