eSim and physical sim
If I use my sim card from my android phone to create an esim in my new iPad, will I still be able to use the sim card in my android phone? I would like to use my cellular service on the iPad while flying drones from it. And when not using the iPad to fly, I want to be able to use my cell service on my android phone. I had planned to be swapping the sim card back and forth from each device as needed, but if I can set up the esim in the iPad and just turn off my phone, that would be convenient.

You can only have one active SIM with a phone number. If you convert a physical SIM to an eSIM, the physical SIM gets deactivated. Also, you can’t use a phone SIM in an iPad. A phone SIM is tied to a phone plan. iPad SIMs are for data only plans. An iPad SIM has a phone number, but that’s only for connecting to the cellular network. It can’t be used for making phone calls.

Thank You for your prompt response. I also have a Moxee Hot Spot device that is now outdated. So could I use that number (sim) and use the iPad as my Hot Spot from now on?

We are here to help with getting cellular service on your iPad when using your drone, @EChartier2022.
Thank you to the ACE, @dwill05 for that great accurate information. To use cellular service on your iPad when flying your drone, you will need to set up a data plan with your iPad.
We do not recommend using your Moxee SIM in your iPad, it will be best to either get a data plan specifically for your iPad, or you can connect your iPad to your Wi-Fi or hotspot device.
We hope this helps. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums. Please feel free to reach back out with any other questions.
