Delayed voicemails

Lately, I have been getting voicemails hours or days after they were first left for me. Why is this? I should be getting voicemails within minutes after someone calls me.

All,

We are aware some customers may be experiencing delays in setting up or retrieving voicemails. We’re are working with the vendor to fix this as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, you can press and hold the “1” key on your handset to be connected to voicemail.

As soon as we are provided any additional information, we’ll pass it along. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Thanks,

I am using an LG Go Phone LG-K371 and voice mail messages are delayed for hours or days.  A friend has the same problem but she uses an IPhone.  We are both served by AT&T...what can be done?

Hello @mcinathens!

Being able to receive your voicemails in a timely fashion is so important. I know I wouldn’t be happy to have to wait for a notification. Not to worry, I would love to help find a resolution for you!

When it comes to voicemail notifications, there may be a few issues at hand. If the phone does not have a strong enough mobile data connection, it will effect when the notifications come in. However, if you are connected via Wi-Fi Calling, you should receive the voicemails with no issues. To turn this feature on, our Device Support page has all the steps needed. When you reach the page, please select the LG K371 > Tutorials > Calling > Wi-Fi Calling.

If you find you are still experiencing this issue, or aren’t able to toggle Wi-Fi Calling on, our Troubleshoot and Resolve tool can help pinpoint the problem! Once you are on the page, please make sure to select your make/model device > Service/network issues > Voicemail. You can also login for a more personalized troubleshooting experience!

Thank you so much for reaching out!  Please don’t hesitate to return to this thread if you have any other questions or concerns.

I am unable to hear my voicemails, but can visually see that there are voice messages. When I click to "play all", it makes it "unread", but cannot get into the voice message or see visual message. Please help

Same issue, but I cannot see the voicemails either.  Have been notified by 6 people they have left me voicemails in the last 2 weeks, but I cannot access any.  Calling it says "service unavailable" and hangs up.  Frustrating.

Have iPhone Xs Max 512 GB, and I'm experiencing voicemails not coming to me timely, and sometimes the next day. Is there a known issue with this happening?  I'm in network constantly, and I'm not in any area outside of the network.  Why would this be happening?

Hi, @all327,

We understand the need to receive your messages in a timely manner. A reset should clear the delayed voicemail alerts up. Try this:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

Let us know if this helps.

This is my wife's phone and she doesn't get her VM's timely.  Could this be a phone issue or is it a network issue. She reboots her phone constantly.

We have the same problem--all of our Iphones have delayed receipt of voicemails--anywhere from 24-48 hours. I also was advised to reset and the problem has continued on ALL of our phones.  This is clearly an AT & T issue and not the phone's.

This is clearly an AT & T issue rather than the individual phones being at fault.

I am having the same issue and this is well past being a real problem. I need this fixed ASAP or I will be forced to take my five lines else where.

I have also spoken to ATT twice. They either have no clue or don't care.

I received a voicemail for a job from 2/28/19 and today is 3/8/19. I reset my phone and I continue to get voicemails at least a day (and apparently up to over a week) after they were left by the caller.

I was just told last night by Apple that this is definitely a carrier issue and to take it into an AT&T store and they should be able to correct that. The thing is it’s not just my phone it’s everyone in my house. So clearly there’s a connection issue and I don’t know how much working with my phone will help.
And I live in a busy suburban area-not some remote area.

I too went in to local AT&T store and they had no clue why it was happening. I have received phone calls on a Friday and not gotten the voicemail until the following Monday. Avg. time is 12 hours to receive a voicemail. I use my phone 95% of the time for work so not getting emails is a real problem. Is anyone at AT&T listening? I left a voicemail, didn't you get it?

Contributor

It’s starting to be a major problem. It’s causing my schedule to be thrown off because my voicemails would all come in sometimes 5 days later all at once. Sometimes I would get 12 voicemails all at once. This is a carrier issue and I’ve been with AT&T ever since they were called Cingular. They will be loosing a very loyal customer with 5 lines; 2 phones and 3 cellular tablet lines.

Same problem - the phone correctly records "recent calls" correctly but any voicemails show up days later. Monday morning I received 4 voicemails that had been left Friday thru Sunday.

I just started this service because my usual phone under a different provider is with the police to help with a criminal case. Not only was my visual voicemail a week late populating, my vm custom setup still doesn’t take, and I have missed vm’s from my detective, noting a suspect’s arrest, as well as vm’s from the jail stating at what time the suspect would appear for his initial hearing and whether I wanted to give an impact statement because those vms came two days later, and yes, I did!!

I learned that this man had been arrested by watching the news!

Needless to say, this is beyond unacceptable. It was such a chore to set all of this up on a new phone, new service, but I will go back to TMobile and Google Fi if I must because I know the messages will show up on time and the service will work in my garage! Very surprising, disappointing , and costly show from American Tel & Tel!!

And if I have to switch, will be getting my money back!

Our business and personal lines (5 total) are all having the same problem. I thought it might be because we moved to a rural location, but after reading these posts, it's clearly a bigger issue.  Two messages from our most important client were delayed 48 hours and they were not happy - neither were we! This is entirely unacceptable.

I am having the same problem. I reset my iPhone and all the stuff AT&T suggested on line. I contacted AT&T November 1st and they said that they reset my voicemail and it should be fixed.  Today I got a phone call from realtor. She left a message at 10:04 this morning and I did not get it until 9:55 Just 10 Minutes ago. I also work in mental health care. It’s very important that I have a reliable voicemail. This is unacceptable!

It is November 2020 and it continues. I have had this problem for years! Every phone upgrade, every new iOS, hard reset, factory reset, troubleshooter, nothing works. Now on iPhone 11. Better for a while, now delays of hours or days again.

I'm a doctor and it's critical that I get my voicemails. I can't believe this continues!

Hi, @Jfroyos,

We'd love to help you with this! In most cases you can clear up delayed voicemail notifications by resetting your network settings. This is an iPhone, correct? Go into Settings>General>Reset and select Reset Network Settings. Let us know if this helps.

Please note that Resetting your Network Settings will require you to reconnect to your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.  Before doing so, please ensure you know your Wi-Fi password before performing this step.

Another option would be to use our Troubleshoot & Resolve tool. Select your device to begin. On the next page, you can select Voicemail beneath Service/network issues. Follow the instructions and see if this helps. We look forward to hearing back from you!

Same problem- starting a new job next week and missed an extremely important voicemail. I still don't have it, but new boss emailed: "I left you voicemail with your onboarding information." Last week a similar thing happened where a voicemail showed up a day after the person left it, along with several other voicemails all at once. Makes me wonder if there are voicemails I am *never* getting. I'm on hold now going on 25 minutes to report the problem.

Same thing here. A voicemail came through two days after it was left. I feel that I'm being forced to purchase a new phone. Looks like this is pretty common. AT&T needs to come up with a reliable fix or there will be another (Edited per community guidelines) suit filed.

I have an iPhone XS Max (with the latest IOS) and have had a consistent issue with getting phone calls, having them go to voicemail (as they should) but the notification on my phone that there is a voicemail and the voicemail themselves are always hours and sometimes days later. I have tried to reset my voicemail password (and power cycle) and run the AT&T system diagnostic (and power cycle) and there hasn't been a change.

I am not receiving voicemail messages nor am I getting a notification that I have one. Has been going on most of the week. AT&T techs can't fix - have called 3x and they have now said the engineers are working on it as it is a known problem. Anyone else experience this? Very frustrating.

Let's look into that for you, @aliceintx!

To provide optimal support with your current Visual Voicemail experience, we want to know more about your case:

  • Are you able to use the feature despite receiving that notification?
  • Has anything on your device changed since the last time you used the feature?
  • Are you using cellular data? VVM cannot be initialized on a Wi-Fi only connection; Mobile Data must be turned on:
    • Before setting up VVM, customers should ensure Mobile Data on their smartphone is turned on (activated) in order to successfully initialize VVM.
    • If both the Wi-Fi and Mobile Data are active on the smartphone, you will not need to disable Wi-Fi to set up VVM:
      • The VVM app utilizes the active Mobile Data connection for setup.

Additionally, you may want to just wait a bit and then try using the feature again. It may sound strange, but at times, these hiccups usually straighten themselves out after a while.

Let us know how this worked for you.

I am using a Galaxy s10e with visual voicemail. I attempted to access my voicemail and received the message, "I'm sorry. Someone has already entered into your voicemail using that password. Please try again later." I then opened the visual voicemail app to see the messages. Although the list of messages (read and unread) is there, when I attempt to open any of them, I get a message stating,"messages already deleted!" I didn't delete these messages and cannot access them. Please advise!

We want to look into this for you, @jmfdrums!

There are several steps you can take to resolve your Visual Voicemail (VVM) experience:

  • If you haven't already, try powering your device off then on again.
  • How is the signal strength on your device? Keep in mind that VVM requires cellular data to operate.
  • Make sure your device's software is up to date:
    • From the device home screen, swipe down from the Notification bar and tap Settings.
    • Scroll to and tap System, then About device.
    • If the Android and Baseband versions don’t match the current update, perform additional updates until they do.

Let us know how this worked for you.

Hi, My Voicemails aren't showing up on my phone and I noticed some are delayed for a week.  hey seem to be recorded with At&t account since i can call in and retrieve them but they're not being pushed to my phone.  This phone was previously on another plan and I changed the SIM to a prepaid number on a new plan.  Everything was normal before I switched plans and I would previously receive voicemails instantly.  thanks in advance-

Hello.  The last week or so I've had the following issues.  I have an iPhoneXR on AT&T Prepaid.

- Group messages containing iPhone and Android users give me "Message Send Failure" almost every time when I try and send a message.

- Voicemail notifications on the iPhone show up hours later.  I tried calling my number yesterday to check to see if I had any messages and I got a response that "My password was entered incorrectly" even though I hadn't entered anything.  I've talked to another AT&T user who had this happen recently.

Thanks!

Greetings @austijs!

Try resolving your group messaging experience by power cycling your device:

  • Simultaneously press and hold the Side button and the Volume up or down button until the slider appears, then select and drag the Power icon to the right.

If your experience persist despite the first step, make sure MMS Messaging and Group Messaging are enabled in the phone settings for Group Messaging to function properly:

  • Select Home Screen > Settings > Messages > Tap the MMS Messaging slider.
  • Select Home Screen > Settings > Messages > Tap the Group Messages slider.

Also, try accessing your voicemail messages from another phone:

  1. Call your 10-digit wireless number.
  2. When you hear your voicemail greeting, press the * key to interrupt it.
  3. If you reach the main voicemail system greeting, enter your 10-digit wireless phone number, then interrupt your greeting by pressing the * key.
  4. Enter your voicemail password when prompted.
  5. Follow the voice prompts to listen to your messages.

Let us know how this worked for you.
