Cracked iPhone 6 Screen, Broken Home Button, Stuck in Recovery Mode

A few weeks ago my phone was dropped and the screen cracked and home button broke. Was using the accessibility feature home button to navigate. Other than that phone still functioned properly. I have insurance but couldn't really afford the $199 deductible for replacement. Last night I plugged the phone in to back it up and the new ios update started. My phone got stuck in this recovery mode and now won't do anything but stay on the itunes recovery screen. I called Apple but can't do a reset because the home button doesn't work. Apple said I could send it in and pay $299 for an out-of-warranty replacement (since the phone is damaged). I honestly can't afford that right now so can I use an old iphone that I have? I know my iphone 6 SIM won't fit an iphone 4. How would that be handled? Also, my phone is on the AT&T next insallment plan so I still owe money on it. If I'm not trying to upgrade or purchase a new phone, will AT&T allow me to just use an old phone and provide me with a new SIM while I pay the monthly installments on the broken iPhone 6?

Yes, you can use your old phone. Go to a corporate store and they will activate the proper size SIM for your phone, on your account, while you pay off your NEXT installments.
