Contact #’s Changed By??

I already knew my cell # was on the dark web (for years), but within the last 4 to 6 weeks I started to realize my contacts’ phone #’s that have been stored in my phone for 15+ years were somehow different #’s now.  Even my husband’s # was changed.  Some of my texts to people were getting rejected….When I call a contact that the # has been changed it always goes to a generic voicemail.

One week ago, I was texting with a friend who said, let me give you a call real quick.  I waited for about 10 minutes wondering if she forgot but the phone ended up ringing.  She said she had called me twice and it went to a Verizon voicemail?  What in the world could be doing this?

Thanks guys and gals!

Hello @User_Friendly we are here to help you recover your contacts!

We understand how important it is to have all your contacts with the correct number. Furthermore, we have a few troubleshooting steps we can try. Let's be sure your iPhone is up-to-date.

  1. Tap Settings, then General.
  2. Tap About.
  3. If a Carrier update is available, you'll be prompted to install it.
  4. If the iOS version and the current software update details match, the device has the latest software.
Learn more about updating the latest software update for your device.

You may also want to sign out of your iCloud and sign back in to see if that helps. Go to Settings > Your name > scroll down to the bottom and tap Sign Out. Then you can sign back in. If you contacts are backed up to your iCloud they will reappear.

We also recommend visiting our Troubleshoot & Resolve for additional troubleshooting steps. You will need to select your brand, and device to get started. Once you do, select contact and photos beneath device/software issues. Follow the steps provided, and see if this restores your contacts.

We hope this helps, and please feel free to reach back out to us with any questions or concerns.
