Contact Responds from Different Number

I was texting my husband this afternoon with no issues until sometime this afternoon his text responses started coming from his phone number in a different format (ex. +12 (3) 45 67 89 0). His number is still in the correct format in the United States (+1 (234) 567-8910).

I'm experiencing this same issue. I am using an Iphone 13 and this is happening with people who have android phones only. I am currently on the line with Assurion tech support and they made me restart all my iphone settings. He did not provide explanation as to why this is happening other than saying, "this is just the troubleshooting steps...". I asked him about the multiple warnings that popped up notifying me that I would lose all my settings, all cards on my apple wallet, etc. He just advised me to keep going without explanation as to who this would help or why this issue is happening. He had my download the At&T Remote Support app as well to record this process and to see how the numbers were displaying in my messages app.

After the restart, This does seem to resolve the issue with the text messages, however having to redo all my preferred settings and losing other info without explanation is really frustrating and unappreciated as a customer. Additionally, I cannot get the Remote Support app to stop the recording session now!

We can certainly understand how confusing this issue must be, and would love to help find a solution for this messaging problem jbunn.

It is possible that there may have been a software/system update to the device that can affect messaging and calling. It is important to us to identify the area of the issue to best provide an exact solution and explanation. To ensure we are covering all bases, please try the following:

  1.  Let's start by troubleshooting your device using our easy step-by-step guide. Please update your device if there are any available updates.
  2. If you are an Apple/ iPhone user, please turn off iMessage and enable MMS/SMS: Go to the Settings menu of your iPhone > Choose Messages from the Settings menu and in the Messages menu, look for iMessages. You will notice a slider next to it which allows you to turn it off. Turn on MMS messaging.
  3. To start a new conversation thread between your friend and yourself, please delete the thread and start a new conversation with only yourself and the selected friend(s) you wish to talk to.

If you proceed to have issues, please reach back out to us. We are always happy to help.

It was happening to only android users as well for me. I blocked the number and unblocked it and it fixed the problem. I don’t even bother with customer service as it’s not the best
