Can’t send texts to non iPhone users on different network

I can receive and send text messages to anyone on at&t network but can only receive messages from non iPhone users on other networks like verison. When I send a text to a non iPhone user on a different network it will show on my phone message is sent but recipient never gets my texts.

Hi @DakotaMN2001

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We would love to take a further look into the difficulty in sending messages to your non-Apple contact(s). We will like to know:

if this applies to one contact or multiple contact

what type of message you were trying to send; iMessage, MMS or SMS

when did this begin and is it still going on

if you are using WiFi or cellular data and if they are turned on

Also, we would suggest you use our
Troubleshooting tool to see if this resolves the problem.

Let us know if this helps.

This problem exists for anyone not on the at&t network and doesnt have an iPhone, not just one person. MMS only ones able to read my messages are iphone users and anyone on at&t network. Have also tried switching off and on iMessage and WiFi or data doesn’t make any difference problem still exists. I tried the troubleshooting tools which now brings me here for a solution.

Hello @DakotaMN200.

Just to be clear - you can't send send a message to an Android device on another network?

Are you or they roaming, or located outside the U.S.? Do you have AT&T wireless service?

We appreciate you providing just a few more details to help isolate the problem. Thank you!

I have the same problem. I have a group txt message with friends. One is on an Android phone and Verizon service. If he is on the list of recipients, my messages do not go through or go through much later (hours) and I don't receive txts until much later. If we remove him from the list, my messages work fine. This group txt has 8 people, the other 6 are all on iPhones on various networks. They have no problem sending and receiving txts with the individual on an Android phone.

I can send individual, 1on1, messages to the user with an Android phone. It seems to only be a complication when using Group Txts

Correct, I cannot send a message to an android user on another network. Yet I can receive messages from them. My carrier is at&t

Example:

My in-laws have verison and android phones. They can text me but I cannot text them. They are at home most of the time so unlikely not roaming. I bought a new phone and this problem existed on my old phone but still same problem with new phone, iPhone 10.

Hello @DakotaMN2001

Thank you for that example!

Have you tried to reset your network settings? Try this:
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

From your example have you checked if your in-laws might have settings on their end that are preventing them from receiving your messages?

You could also look into setting up advanced messaging to see if that might be a helpful option.

There is also the ability to toggle different features in your message settings to see if any specific feature is what is blocking the outgoing texts.

Also, could you have any security apps that you are using that might be interfering with your text restrictions?

We appreciate your patience as we continue to look into this.

Update: I just got over 100 text messages from earlier in the week. Not sure what fixed it but I’m getting them and able to send them now.

I have had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM for almost 3 years. I have gotten a new iPhone, changed the SIM card, did all the diagnostics, even had ATT higher-level tech person on the phone look into it and they could not give me an answer.

It has been VERY frustrating as I use my phone for work and I can receive texts from anyone on any phone or carrier, but I CANNOT text any Android non-ATT user.

I have a long list of friends and co-workers who have not been able to receive my texts for over two years. All of those people are android users who do not have ATT.

To summarize: Everyone with iPhones receives my texts, regardless what phone carrier they use. Everyone with ATT receives my texts. But anyone who has an android and does NOT use ATT does NOT get my texts.

The strange this is, my daughter is on my same ATT account and has an identical iPhone to mine, and she does not have this problem.

One more thing...if I send the text as a group text, with another ATT or iPhone user attached on the group, THEN the android/non-ATT people do get my texts. But not if I send it to them alone.

I would be eternally grateful if someone could solve this problem. It is a mystery that has been baffling me for years.

Awaiting an answer.... Michelle in Miami.

I just switched to AT&T and am having this same exact problem. I've never had this issue before, and I'm using the same phone I had before switching over. I've done all of the troubleshooting in settings, and it's still not working. I am so frustrated and ready to switch back!

Been dealing with this (Edited per community guidelines) for over a year. You have to send the messages with a pic. Att won’t own up to it and cannot fix it no matter how hard they try. Just waiting for the contract to expire to leave them.

I have been looking to switch service providers to Att, however, with this possible issue I am reconsidering. It is crucial for work that I am able to receive and send text messages.

EXACT same problem here.  Ported my Google Voice number to AT&T and a new iPhone 12 about 10 days ago and have had problems receiving and sending to non iPhones and friends on other carriers.  Also cannot receive SMS from online institutions sending authentication codes.  Have tried EVERYTHING AT&T has recommended to no avail.

I had this exact same problem when I ported back over from google voice last week!! Before I switched out in mid-2019 this wasn’t an issue, but all of a sudden it is now.
