Can’t make or receive calls after SIM card change

I got my SIM card changed yesterday on my iPhone 8 and I can text but I can’t make or receive calls. When I dial any number it automatically says call failed. What should I do?

Hello @Jhpate27, we're happy to help with troubleshooting steps to resolve your call experience.

If you recently changed your SIM card, make sure that the SIM is compatible with the device and has been activated in our Device activation portal. Once you have confirmed that your device is active try the following steps:

Find out additional options on what to do when you can't make or receive calls on your AT&T mobile phone. Sign in to our Device Help Page and select your devices Make and Model then click "Go" and follow the prompts. We're here if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

How's it going, ? Thank you for using our recommended troubleshooting steps and letting us know if they were helpful.

Now that you confirmed you're still unable to make or receive phone calls we'd like to invite you into a direct message, so we can provide additional personalized troubleshooting which requires account access and details.

In the meantime, try resetting your network setting to refresh your connection to the network. This option may cease failed calls.

Please note, Bluetooth pairing and Wi-Fi settings are deleted and will need to be re-added. You will not lose data like pictures, videos, or text.

  • iPhone: Settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings

Don't forget to look for our direct message which is the chat icon next to the bell icon. The notification will appear in the upper right corner of the Forums.

We await your response!

I tried that but it still does the same thing. It still says call failed as soon as I dial any number and press talk.

Why did you change the SIM?  Do you still have the old SIM, and did it work with the old SIM?  If you can text (I’m talking actual MMS/SMS text, not iMessage), but not call, it could be that the SIM isn’t correctly provisioned.  Best avenue is to go into an AT&T corporate store and have them look at it, or try a new SIM.

I needed one for someone else but I didn’t know they had to be there so I gave them my info and they activated the SIM card to me so I had to replace it. Texting and FaceTime work just not phone calls. Yes I do still have the old sim and everything worked before. I tried getting a new sim again afterwards but it did the same thing.
