Can't connect to wifi and internet is very weak using cellular data

Last week, my iphone 8 stopped being able to connect to the internet, both over wifi and data. I tried everything, multiple times--resetting my router, restarting the phone, resetting network settings, even popping out the sim card and popping it back in. I could still make/receive calls and texts, but none of my apps would update. This will happen even when I'm outside, not connected to wifi, but with full bars.

And when I am home, one weird thing I noticed was that whenever I restart my phone, the wifi icon at the top left corner would flash on for a second and then disappear again. According to my settings, I AM connected, but it's not actually working, and the wifi icon isn't there.

A couple of really bad storms had blown through the area, so I thought maybe a cell tower had been damaged, and I should give it some time. It started working again very randomly about 2 days later, and everything was fine for several days, but now it's happening again. Can you recommend any other fixes?

Hello, @MarisaE123,

Thank you for reaching out. Let's look into getting you connected again. If you haven't yet, go into Settings>Wi-Fi and toggle it off for thirty seconds. After you've turned it back on, see if it will connect to your Wi-Fi again.

If it won't, check under Wi-Fi to determine if your Wi-Fi is listed as being available on your iPhone. Let us know what it says.

Have a great weekend.

Hi, James. Thanks for the response. I had tried both of those things before, but I did them again just in case, and no luck. My wifi is listed as an available network on my phone--it actually says it's connected, with the check mark to the left of the network name, but the wifi icon that's usually at the top left of the screen isn't present. Toggling the wifi off and on didn't change anything.

I also want to mention again that my problem isn't just connecting to wifi--I can't connect to the internet at all, even when I'm using data. I was outside earlier, with full bars, and none of my apps would load, mail wouldn't update, GPS couldn't find my location, etc.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
