Bought an iPhone which is carrier locked. Unable to use the phone here in India

I am an iPhone user from India and my colleague bought me an iPhone 11 pro max from a Pawn Shop in the United States for a hefty amount of $900 USD. I tried to apply for an unlock request but I was surprised to see an error message that the phone is reported lost or stolen. I am stuck with the phone and unable to use it for my day to day needs. I have no idea if I can use this phone or not. I request AT&T to check the database and help me out with this issue. Required information will be shared upon request.

it surprises you it’s lost or stolen when bought at a pawn shop? The phone will never be unlocked and will not ever be used with any carriers blacklisting is not done by accident the rightful owner has reported it lost or stolen. I’m afraid you have an expensive iPod or paperweight

Buddy, Thanks for responding on time. We are outsiders seldom visiting US. This has turned out to be a nightmare for us. How do we know if the phone which is sold to us is reported lost or stolen by the righteous owner before the purchase?

There are online website that can verify iPhones elegibility via imei for a token. And so far provides a better service in that regard and timely response too. Cheers

these types of posts are against the terms of service as your giving a solution to skirt around a stolen phone issue. I would expect that the mods will either edit or delete your post

@mvk3012 you don’t unless you buy from a reputable source and a pawn shop isn’t one.

@Constructive
There are websites who claimed that they can remove Blacklist from a device, but can't it's a fraud and they take additional money from a consumer who's already been ripped off once for a temporary fix. In the case of an iPhone as soon as the user changes SIM cards the phone gets locked again and is back on The Blacklist

@Constructive have said it all, however; as I’m currently in the same shoes as you are right now and I’m considering using alternatives [EDITED per Community Guidelines] but you wouldn’t be able to wipe or restore or better still get an Unlock Chip.

#I hope my kinda con3bution is allowed here ??

Thanks Phinity! However, it is still disgusting to see how people make fool out of outsiders visiting a country like US and sell a phone which is locked by a carrier. Every country has got crooks like these and they do not deserve a place on earth.
