Bought an iphone from ebay which as I understand turned out to be financed. (not a us resident)
Hi,
I bought an iPhone on ebay.
The person I bought it from told me that the phone has clean esn and not on contract.
So I thought it can be unlocked. When I tried to unlock it, I got a message "You have not completed all the payments for your device according to your AT&T Next service agreement."
Is there anything I can do? I already contacted the seller on ebay and waiting for his response.
I also messeged att on facebook since I can't use chat (I'm not a US resident and don't have att account)
Thank you

I think you have a phone of questionalble origins.
$365 seems like a lot for one with that type of history ($440-$75).
What if at some later date (say 3 months from now) someone reports it stolen? What will you do then?
I'd get a 100% refund.

Unless you can get hold of the person you bought the phone from you are probably out of luck. Neither AT&T or Apple will help in this matter. It's also possible the phone is stolen and you bought a very expensive paper weight.
Since you purchased from from an online service like eBay for example contact them, eBay, for refund help.
You really need to be extremely careful purchasing things like this online and from strangers

Swappa has no access to the financial status on the phone.
You need to contact the eBay seller first. Then go through the eBay dispute process.

@kirqe7 Follow this link and open a case number with eBay. They have protections in place to assist buyers from being ripped off:

Edit: fixed typos
Thanks for your answer.
Here're more details:
I opened a case. Seller offered me $70 refund.
I declined it. After some discussions he agreed to pay for unlock service which is around $60.
The cheaper offers don't work in my case.
So I bought $60 unlock from another seller and waiting for result.
So If it doesn't work he will cover my spendings ~ 75$
Do you think it's fair?
What would you do in my situation?
How much should I ask for this problem?
--
Originally, he accepted my best offer $400 for the actuall device + I payed around 40 for shipping.
6s plus 64gb.
