Hi Thecannon! In order to restore service on your iPhone 13 you will need to get a new eSIM.

Once an eSIM is erased, it is no longer available. You will need to visit an AT&T Store near you to pick one up. After you get an eSIM, to replace it, follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to your myAT&T account overview.
  2. Scroll to My devices.
  3. Choose Manage for the device that needs a new eSIM.
  4. Scroll to Options & settings and select Get a new eSIM.
  5. Confirm your selection to Get a new eSIM.
  6. Follow the prompts to complete your eSIM setup.

Also, please be advised that even if a physical SIM is moved to an eSIM the physical SIM is deactivated and can no longer be used.

We hope this information helps. Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums.

I didn't want to put this in the reply above as I wanted it to stick out. 1 hour and 43 minutes later, I was able to solve the issue with the Apple Watch cellular plan.

Background:

  1. Apple Watch with existing AT&T cellular plan was replaced under AppleCare+.
  2. Old Apple Watch had the cellular plan removed from the Apple Watch and the watch was erased per Apple's instructions. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207578.
  3. New Apple Watch was updated and restored from iCloud backup during the setup process.
  4. New Apple Watch would not activate on AT&T's network - I was prompted to add a new line of service which would give me a new number and incur a new monthly cost.

Solution:

  1. Although AT&T's own documentation as indicated with my screenshots above state that I can get a new eSIM, that is not the case.
  2. I needed to call AT&T technical support and the CSR had to update my EID on AT&T's end. Once my new Apple Watch EID was added to my account under my existing Apple Watch telephone number, I rebooted the Apple Watch.
  3. Once the Apple Watch was rebooted, on my iPhone in the Apple Watch App, I was prompted to install the AT&T cellular plan. Once that plan was installed a second reboot of the Apple Watch activated the plan. After 5 minutes, the Apple Watch was able to make and receive phone calls under the existing Apple Watch cellular number.

Hope this helps anybody else transferring the same number to a new Apple Watch under AT&T.

FYI this option does not or no longer exists for Apple Watch Series 7 with AT&T service. I've spoken to two AT&T CSRs who both advised that I need to add a new line of service and cancel the old Apple Watch telephone number which presents its own set of issues as changing a telephone number is linked to many things. Not looking to troubleshoot my issue here, just wanted to bring this to your attention that the solution above is incorrect.

@johndball  The solution given was for restoring an eSIM for a phone, not a watch.

Hi dwill05, not according to www.att.com/activations - the instructions appear to be the same for the Apple Watch and, as I indicated above, is incorrect.

Here are the screenshots for my Apple Watch with cellular plan.
