2 Questions - Device Linking & Message Access

I have had an iPad Air with wi-fi access and its own phone number on my main account for a few years but somehow managed to remove the device from my account. How do I add it back?

Then, once I have it added back, I need to figure out how to access messages for that phone number. I can't seem to find anything on the AT&T website to access it and when I try to add it to my Apple ID account, it sends a 6-digit code to that number wanting me to enter that before adding. Obviously, I can't access the message to get the 6-digit code so it's impossible to add otherwise, so I'm not sure exactly how to set that up.

How did you remove it from your account?  Did you cancel your service?  The only way your iPad would stop working is if you either canceled your service or deleted your SIM.  You either have to restore your service and/or get a replacement SIM.  Also, regarding your SMS/MMS messages, those are only available for a short period of time after they are sent.  How long has your iPad been disconnected from AT&T?  Old messages may not be retrievable.

I removed it from my AT&T profile. The iPad still works. I didn't cancel it. It's just not there now (in my defense, it showed my landline number, not the iPad number so I thought removing it would remove the landline number (which is on a different account), but it seems to have removed the iPad too). Only shows me one device, not the two I normally have.

And the iPad is connected to my Apple ID, as is my iPhone. When I go into my profile, it only shows my iPhone number. I try to add the phone number and it wants to send a "text" message but since that number isn't accessible from any device, I can't add it to my Apple ID. That's what I'm trying to do. How can you see a message that you don't have access to even see. I don't know why the iPad never connected to that phone number but it's the device I want to use to access those messages but without having access to the messages, I can't give it access to those messages. See the Catch-22?

So you deleted the Esim.

Have you looked in your online account to see if you're still paying for service on it?  Yes?  Call AT&T and ask for assistance to download eSIM again

@ATTHelp Settings-General-About. Shows SIM locked. But when I checked on the AT&T unlock interface, it showed that the IMEI did not match the AT&T device. My carrier is AT&T. What is the reason for this? Please help to answer it. Thanks

An iPad isn’t an iPhone.  It doesn’t use the same unlocking method as a phone, so iPad IMEIs aren’t in the online unlocking database that the portal uses.

@cdwl8  Where did you get the iPhone and does it meet all of the unlocking requirements listed on the unlock portal? Oh, and this thread is about an iPad so your question about an iPhone confused matters somewhat.

@cdwl8   You hijacked a thread about an iPad, so no one knew you were talking about a phone.
