Unlock Unsuccessful

Hi received an unlock code with the following instructions from ATT for my paid off Samsung Galaxy S7.

Your unlock code: xxxxxxxx

Unlock instructions:

1. Power off the device and remove the SIM card.

2. Power on the device.

3. Enter #0111*, the unlock code, and #. The device cycles off and back on.

Note: You are allowed five attempts to unlock before your device permanently locks to the AT&T network.

I did exactly as outlined, but had to add a sim from another carrier between step 1 and 2 to actually bring up the unlock screen. Then I tried to enter the code as mentioned in step 3 but the unlock did not succeed. I'd appreciate some help in unlocking my device

Got the email instructions with unlock code which took multiple requests through the store and online.  Finally got a response and the code didn't work.  Double checked the email from ATT and it turns out I was sent the unlock code for a different IMEI than requested.  Consumer Cellular was able to still activate service since it was using ATT towers.  After months later, switched sim cards due to need for international travel use.  Unlocked code required!  Phone system in the US is not consumer friendly with all of these large companies trying to prevent customers from switching between networks.  No satisfied at all with ATT customer support!!!

Unlock Steps - Use Non-AT&T SIM Card

1. Power off the device, remove the battery, and insert a non-AT&T SIM card.

2. Re-insert the battery and power on the device with non-AT&T SIM.

3. The device displays "Enter the device unlock code."

4. Enter the eight-digit unlock code.

5. Press OK.

Note: You are allowed five attempts to unlock before your device permanently locks to the AT&T network.

Contact your manufacturer if you have additional questions.
