Unlock phone

I just purchased this phone without service and want to unlock to use on another service provider. I use my IMEI number on the back of my phone but it says it's not the right number for the phone 🤷

You purchased a brand new AT&T branded phone, without the intention to use it on AT&T?  That's not going to happen...

and want to unlock to use on another service provider.

What you just wrote here is 100% why you can't unlock the phone. It has never been used on AT&T, which is a requirement for phones to be unlocked.

Until the phone is used and registered on AT&T it's IMEI will not appear in the unlock portal. Once it is registered properly, you have a minimum of 60 days but possibly as long as 6 months before the phone is eligible for unlocking.

Prepaid phones sold at a deep discount are required to have 6 months of paid prepaid service in order to be eligible.

What do you mean “it’s not the right number for the phone”?  Please give us the exact wording of the error message that you got.  Where did you buy the phone?

@dwill05  Did I miss something? I don't see my initial response to the OP and I don't remember anything being said about a phone number in the original post.

@OttoPylot   There were no other responses when I posted.  It was just the OP.  If there were other responses at any other time, I never saw any.

@Drmoxley You said you tried IMEI number from back of your phone. Try *#06# and that will give you actual IMEI of your phone.
