Unlock code does not work

I received an unlock code for my phone.  The e-mail says to power off the device, remove the battery, and insert a non-AT&T SIM card, then reinsert the battery and power on.  It says the device will then display, "Enter the device unlock code."  However, the device does NOT display this message.  Any ideas?

I saw in another post that I could send a private message about this.  However, the link to Private Messages gives me a blank page, perhaps because I am not logged in?  But I am not logged in because I am not an AT&T customer; I just bought an AT&T phone which I want to use with a different carrier.

Hello @cvcalhoun!

I understand the need to unlock a phone to use on another carrier.  I will be more than happy to help!

It is odd the phone is not displaying “Enter Unlock Code” when you put in a different carrier’s SIM in it.  Here is a link which has the instructions for all devices we support for unlock.  Please use this link to check it against the instructions you received in the email.  You’ll just want to locate the make and model of your device within the PDF.

I have this same exact problem. Only, I am an ATT customer and have been for over 10 years. I have an unlock code right here that I was given yesterday. I have an ATT phone that costs the same as the same phone in the ATT store. I cannot get any sim card to activate or be seen at all from any carrier that I have tried. Yet, I can put in anyone's ATT sim and my phone becomes their phone instantly without any problems. What I also do not have access though to is the 'Networks' selection in the menu. That is greyed out so that I cannot alter the APN. The last 4 phones that I have bought from ATT I was forced to alter the APNs because they were being sold without the correct permissions on the APNs to do the things that they advertised that they could do, like send group text messages, or surf the internet, or get 4G LTE. I think this is all related... It isn't the sim reader. I took the first phone back and got another one. Same problem. To me, this seems like ATT is going to inadvertently victimize the retailers in America. It won't affect me though. I will just keep taking phones back to those retailers all day long until there are none left in the store, ATT will be forced to reimburse that retailer, and eventually I will get furious enough to take my business elsewhere to some other carrier. OR, I will get this phone unlocked before that all happens, now that I am so vested in this insanity that ATT has come up with.

And where did Did you get the unlock code?

Unlock codes are one code, per IMEI.  Any brand new ATT phone CANNOT be unlocked.

1.  You must wait until after the 14 day return period beforehou can even request an unlock code.

2.  I suspect this is a Prepaid phone.  Prepaid phones are NOT unlock eligible until they are used on ATT for 6 months.  Until the phone is registered on ATT, it isn’t even in the lock system.

So I’m wondering if you paid for a code?

I have a brand new AT&T Phoenix 3 AT&T GoPhone phone that I bought last week from Walmart. I called AT&T Customer Care and asked for an unlock code so that I could use the phone on the AT&T family plan that we have. The lady brought her manager on and I got that code directly from them. I have this unlock code literally right now in front of me right now. I did not pay for it. AT&T gave it to me... Not that it works as they thought it would though... The 'Networks' menu is greyed out and I cannot get to the APNs to edit them. It also will not read a brand new SIM in the AT&T store when I took this code in there with this unlock code and tried to get my phone activated. There is nothing fishy about any part of what I have stated. This is exactly what has transpired. Now, I have a code, a new sim, a new phone, an AT&T network that we pay $300 a month on, and a phone that still will not turn on. Any suggestions?

If the phone were registered on the network and met all requirements, and the code legit, it would work.  It isn’t.  Why you were given a code boggles the mind.
