Switching SIM card type

I have a prepaid AT&T LG G4 and decided to upgrade to a G6. However, the current SIM card that I have doesn't seem to fit into the new device. I've had the same SIM card for over 10 years and have always been able to just switch it to each new phone. I can't seem to get it to fit this new one, however. It looks like I need a nano SIM. Do I just need to purchase a new prepaid SIM card and link that to my account? And if I do so, does the info on my current SIM card get transferred over (contacts, texts, etc.) or will that all be erased?

There is on information on the SIM card. All contacts, texts, etc., are located on the phone.

Yes, you will need to get a new SIM and activate it on your account.
