Sprint unlocked Galaxy S6 says invalid SIM when an AT&t chip put in

Sprint unlocked my galaxy S6 for me and I took it to AT&T and when they put in chip it said INVALID SIM CARD. The at&t representative tells me it is therefore not unlocked. I call Sprint, they tell me it is unlocked and that it has something to do with technical stuff on AT&T's end. I do all the system updates, factory reset and take it back to AT&T again still not working. I call Sprint again and they say the galaxy s6 was automatically unlocked a while ago as soon as my mom had upgraded her phone and paid off the galaxy phone. So even though I went through the process of requesting them to unlock it and the lady told me it would take 48 hours for it to be unlocked, apparently it was already unlocked this whole time, per a very curt Sprint representative. The Sprint guy also said it was no longer sprints problem and that again at&t had to do some technical stuff on their end in order for it to work. I've gone back and forth so many times from Sprint to at&t. At&t keeps telling me it is locked. Sprint says unlocked. Help please, I don't want to give up on this and I refuse to believe that it's just not compatible on the at&t network because I've seen other people have success from doing the Sprint to at&t thing with a galaxy s6.

Hello @Kali8085!

I can understand how not being able to use your phone with the AT&T network can be an issue, and would love to help resolve this!

When using a device which comes from another carrier, updating the APN settings in this phone may be necessary. You can see the required settings for your Samsung Galaxy S6 by visiting this page, and then selecting “Android Devices” to see what information is needed to use this phone with AT&T services.

Please let me know if this information helps!

Thanks for the reply Jordan,
Unfortunately I've tried this before and the phone doesn't even have an option for me to select Wireless & Networks or More Networks. There is also no option for mobile networks nor access point names.
I don't know if it has something to do with an update that the settings no longer gives me these options. Would you know how to revert the settings to and older version or something else so that I do have access to these menus under setting. I've read posts where changing the APN works and seen photos of settings on galaxy s6 that does have these but my settings dont. Its like Sprint purposely doesn't want me to change them so I can't use the phone.

Hello Kali8085!

Thank you for the swift response! Let’s keep working to get this resolved! I can definitely walk you through the Factory Reset process to see if this allows access to the APN settings, if you wish.

Can you please send us a private message to @ATTCares with your name, and the IMEI of this device? We will be able to work together to get this issue taken care of!

I look forward to hearing back from you!

I am having the very same issue, from start to finish, wiith a Samsung Galaxy S7 that Sprint insists is Unlocked, AT&T states is still locked, and I cannot access the APN settings (it was removed by Sprint, even after factory reset)

I had the exact same issue!! Ultimately it was that the phone was NOT unlocked by Sprint. I bought the phone used, had to have the original call them, not sure how he got them to do it but they said leave phone on and within 72 hours would be unlocked. Within a day a message popped up (which I unfortunately don't remember what exactly it said). I rebooted phone, manually added apn and it worked. My only issue us that I don't get 4g, which I see is a common problem,  not sure if there is a fix or if my area doesn't have it. The latter doesn't make sense though bc I could get 4g on my previous phone (AT&T samsung).

@Psychosound the previous comment says their phone actually wasn't unlocked by sprint. You need to go through sprint.

Sprint has claimed multiple times they've unlocked my phone. They're either lying, or completely incompetent.

If there is a large enough group of people experiencing this problem...

I mean, if I outright own my phone, and yet they deny me the right to use what I legally own I see no reason why I shouldn't speak to a lawyer.

@Psychosound if a phone says invalid sim its not unlocked for other sim types. You can try talking to a lawyer but I would imagine that sprint has an agreement where you can only take them to small claims. Most carriers do.

@Psychosound

🙄.  File an FCC complaint.

Seriously?  At $300 an hour you will pay for that $150 S6 twice over.

I am having the same problem a second time around with a Sprint phone that was definitely unlocked, using on ATT.  8 months ago I did a factory reset, got a new sim, got the right APN in there and it has worked fine..... until the Oreo update finally came through yesterday.  Now it's jacked up again and telling me "invalid sim", even after another factory reset.  Only now it does not give the option to add APN's... so what do I do???
