Greetings @sptmbr!
Receiving unknown text messages that are not in your contacts can be a real annoyance. It would be our please to help!
Do you have the AT&T Call Protect feature on your device? Has these unknown messages happen constantly? Have you been able to manually block the messages from your cellphone?
You can access AT&T Call Protect Page for more information on blocking unwanted calls, texts, and mobile threats that may harm your device.
Also if you would like to know how to manually block unknown numbers, our Stop Unwanted Messages Article will offer more details on how to troubleshoot your cellphone to help block suspicious messages as well.
We hope this helps, and enjoy the rest of your day!

To fix your problem I suggest A: Block all texts/calls within your device settings from numbers not saved contact list which will most likely stop delivery from SMS gateway but not MMS gateway. B: If one specific email address is texting you, create a contact, name it spam or whatever, add that email address only and block that contact. Good luck

It seems iPhones and older versions of Android (mine is 5.1) does allow blocking of email to text within their privacy settings. I also have an option that blocks all incoming texts from non-contacts, this does block messages within the SMS gateway but not the MMS gateway meaning if the sender addresses the message to your10digitnumber@txt.att.net, it will be blocked within the device. If the sender addresses the message to your10digitnumber@mms.att.net, it will not be blocked. Your last option is seaching Google Playstore for other text messaging apps that can block email to text and replace your default android messaging app.

Getting increased volume of text messsges from unknown email addresses. Currently AT&T does not offer a quick and easy way to forward the offending text as the SPAM text number 7726 asks for a phone number. When will the option to report emails be available?

Yes my 2 numbers are being spammed day and night from both emails and phone numbers that are not even enough digits to be a phone number but seem to have the 410 & 401 area codes. ATT reporting has been ZERO help with this and ‘blocking’ them per ATT instructions does not work. ATT needs to provide an immediate solution to all of us being bombarded by these. We do pay a monthly service which should prevent these!!!!!

I'm getting these too. No way to opt out, since the sending numbers are all spoofed. And forwarding to 7726 doesn't solve the problem, for the same reason. AT&T's Call Protect (including the $3.99/mo version) doesn't stop these text bombs either. AT&T needs to use the new SHAKEN/STIR technology to stop text/SMS/MMS messages from spoofed numbers. They also need to allow filters to block messages containing specific words, at the server. Some of us who use our cells for business can't just block all text messages from unknown numbers, because many of the calls we get are from people not yet in our contact lists. I've started forwarding these rogue messages to the FTC and FCC using their complaint forms. ATT is complicit in this, and needs to protect their customers better. The technology exists.

This information is in another forum - "Solved: Re: Blocking email as texts" and I'm copying it here as well. Special thanks to aloha-gal, because this is a much better solution than just forwarding it along to the FTC and waiting for one bad player to get removed,
Okay when I found this I was a little suspicious, as aloha-gal has basically the same response for both an S9 phone and an iPhone (in the other forum). But I had started getting spam emails by texts, so I called AT&T.
My angel was Al. I gave him the "Article 446389" and he said he and two other people were reading over it and not finding anything. But then he was clicking around on stuff and found it and said to add this for the benefit of your AT&T person: He said -- and this will make sense on their end -- that they should click on "Torch", then to "Mind" then to E-Mail Getaway or Gateway (sorry think this is right - can't read my own writing.) There are three options they can turn off. The first two is to block email on SMS, the second is block email on MMS. He selected both. (There is a third option which he did not do because he had no idea what it was.)
So I'm waiting to see if it works but based on aloha-gal I am hopeful, and so is my son, who's been getting many more than I have.

There is another way as well unless AT&T removed it. They have a site where the user can control what kinds text they want to receive. Wish I could remember the site address but it's been a few years. AT&T limits the time your agent can be on the phone helping you. Sorry agent normally don't find these fixes for custome because they are just trying not to get fired.

Wanted to let you know that I received a text saying I had a message from AT&T. The number was 469-318-6886. Came to the website to see if I had a message and I do not. Said to visit jk13a.com/ibZFUaxTOR.
