Wish I would have seen this solution earlier. ZTE had me do a factory reset - lost all my data and still didn't fix the issue. They told me I would have to ship the tablet back to them and it would take them 10 days once they received it. I installed Backlight Manager and the screen stays on now. I wish ZTE would have admitted they had a software bug before I did the factory reset !!. Thanks for the info !!
Thank you very much "genkilljoy" I will try your solution as soon as I can. We were hit by the huricane Maria and we don't have electricity, the water is running out,and to many other things, "Katrina" part two.. I hope that we receive a really help from the World, specially from the US,this is almost the third month with almost no comunications,my carrier is AT@T and I don't understand why is taking so much to fix something that they should take provisions in the caribbean where we are in danger of huricanes, the same is happening in the US.. Let see if this message get through.. Thanks again my friend "genkilljoy" have a wonderful saturday, your friend "Robert" from Puerto Rico.
I am having same problem. I did what I could to follow the directions. Couldn't find all of them. Android upgraded without my permission and I feel like my tablet now has a virus. They (Android personal) should fix this problem since it was their system that broke it.

No, AT&T or ZTE broke this, not android. Do you hear the same complaint from any other Android device owners?
Lets put the blame where it belongs.
At&t had the obligation to do some minimal testing before pushing this out.
Carriers always delay Android upgrades based on the absurd claim that they have to vet all the updated.
Well, where was that testing? It took less than 30 minutes to see this bug and figure out its not normal behavior and not controllable by normal means.
I'm also pretty tired of being told there is an Accepted Solution to this problem just because someone found a battery draining application that forces the tablet to stay awake. Its not an acceptable solution. Its a stop gap, and not a good one.
Does no one at ZTE read english and follow these forums? Have they no pride of workmanship?
Note: Factory Reset DID NOT fix the issue. All it did has get rid of a bunch of my data. After I did the reset I had the same issue. It is a software bug with their last release - they need to fix the software !!
What's changing: Default screen timeout fix and Android security updates, including KRACK Wi-Fi vulnerability fix and BlueBorne fix (on SPLs Sept. 1 or later)
go to settings > AT&T Software Update > Check for update

"keep screen on" works. I am gonna try using this for a while to see if they figure it out and fix it in another update.
Ain't excited about another hour reloading after a reset

Same thing for me, just after the 7.1.1 update. Really frustrating.
