The first time I let it install all the apps that I previously had been using. It barely got through doing that when it shut down.
The second factory reset, I removed my microsd, and told it to install as a new device. That seemed to work, and my sleep and lock settings seem to be back to normal, even after updating all the google apps from the market.
I'll now selectively install just the apps I need.
I'll also reformat my microsd, and install it as system storage (it a very fast card so it works well for this.)
I have to say I've been presently surprised by this ZTE device, and this disaster update was the first problem I've ever had with it. I got it for $1.75 (yes under two bucks) when AT&T was running a promotion.
Oh, one more thing: After all the Factory Resets, there are only TWO settings available for Display Sleep time, 15 seconds and 30 seconds. Previously there were many more than this ranging up to 5 minutes. Maybe if you see any more than those two you can't really use them, and doing so dumps you in the 5 seconds bin.
Further edit: after some time, more Display Sleep Time options showed up - with options all the way up to 10 minutes. I have no idea why there were only two initially.
Losing our app data is not an option. AT&T, Android, and ZTE need to get on the ball to acknowledge and repent this issue, then fix it, and in the meanwhile AT&T needs to fix their support chat since it doesn't accept out log-in for their website here, and trying to create a new ID leads to a 404 page.
Factory reset didn't work for me. But I found a workaround that will be acceptable to some but not to everyone. I went on the Play Store and found this app, appropriately named Keep Screen On! It works but doesn't have intermittent settings. It just keeps the screen from sleeping (except when you press the power/sleep button or close a case cover, both of which will still sleep the screen). Just thought some might wanna do this rather than have no answer at all.

Well, I finally did the factory reset - Twice.
The second time did the trick.

Same problem after update to 7.1.1. Tried ATT chat for a fix and they seemed to not be aware of the problem.
Does anyone think ATT or Android or ZTE will come up with a fix. Hate to do a reset

Only fix so far is factory reset.... Which means starting all over again with your apps. So disappointed in the "update"!!!
