Pre-Owned Phone Can't Unlock

I bought a used LG V35 (model LM-V350AWM) phone a little over a year ago. I have since been using it on AT&T without issue. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the account holder for my account had to temporarily suspend service. My plan was to switch to Straight Talk temporarily and then reassess my options.

Unfortunately, when I try to put in a request to unlock my phone, it says that I haven't paid off my device yet. I assumed my phone was paid off when I bought it used, but the account holder also isn't seeing any Installment Plans for my phone on the account, which further leads me to believe the device is fully paid off. Is there a way to find out if a previous owner owed money on the device, is there a way to find out how much money they might owe on it, and is there any way I can unlock my phone without dealing with that?

Any help or information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

AT&T unlocked phones will work on any of its mvnos, including straight talk with an AT&T SIM card.

You can't pay off the phone. AT&T won't allow anyone access to someone else's account to pay off what they might oh which could be thousands of dollars if they defaulted on the entire account
