Not able to make calls since 3G shut down with my 4G LTE Phone

I'm not able to make calls on my Android phone even though it's showing connected to 4G LTE.  My phone is on the approved list issued last year (BlackBerry KeyOne BBB100-1) and since 2/22/2022 I've not been able to make/receive phone calls.  Data and texting work fine.  I've spent over an hour with tech support 3 different times doing a million different things with zero resolution.  (Each time I'm told someone will contact me within 48 hours - never happened)  I'm at a desperate point and deeply disappointed that AT&T isn't getting back with me as promised.

Maybe someone on here can help?

@formerlyknownas

On top of the little bars it says "4G" so you are not getting it...

Type this code into your keypad.

*#*#4636#*#*

If under "phone information", VOLTE is grayed out and you can't turn it on, ATT has blocked your phone's IMEI from being provisioned for 4G voice calls.

You can try to convince advanced tech support to provision your phone for VOLTE, but they'll either stall you out on an endless circle (Edited per community guidelines) or basically tell you to go (Edited per community guidelines) an egg (meaning buy a new phone from them).

Unnoficially, ATT will NOT provision any unlocked phone for VOLTE. Period.

Yes, even if it's on their whitelist. They just wanted to screw you into a corner first with that lie.

@Seaeagle ,

You type that in the phone dialer keypad - same place you type in phone numbers.  Once it's done with the final *, the screen changes.

I have a Blackberry Keyone experienced similar issues today (i.e. in trying to place a call it made a brief attempt to call and then stopped) having returned from a business trip and tried the various options/fixes suggested herein with no success. As such, I went to the ATT store.  The first ATT rep greeted me and in looking at the phone (i.e. it's a BlackBerry), said "You need a new phone."  I know I don't need a new phone, so I challenged him on it and showed him all network bars and signal strength illuminated...  Irritated, he tried doing a few fixes and even replace my sim card with a new 5G sim card since the phone had an old 3G sim card.  Unfortunately, neither him nor the new 5G sim card worked....  A second, a bit older, more mature rep came over and asked to see the phone.  He went into Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular Networks > Preferred network type; and in there switched the LTE "preferred network type" to the HPSA+/UMTS/GSM preferred network type and voila...it worked.   Good luck hope it works for you.  PS, I am having trouble with vmail though...

that will work until they take down the 3G towers. then you will no longer be able to make calls.

@justablackberryguy  so as of YESTERDAY, your phone would make calls?

which means it was probably auto switching between LTE for internet and 3G for calls. but today it stopped doing that? it was LTE or nothing?

i say this because i was futzing with the samsung band selection app, but now with my network settings reset and deleting the app... my phone will no longer auto connect... meaning LTE for data... switch to 3G for calls. i have to force it now.

i thought i screwed something up... but i think perhaps it's ATT that's not allowing auto switching as of today?

just got back from metro (formerly PCS) around the corner from my home. the kid popped a Metro SIM in my phone. said the SIM hasn't been activated, so all it can do is call the 800 line to activate... but you should hear the automated voice message.

IT WORKED! heard the message, phone stayed on LTE+ the whole time. checked "the secret code" (*#*#4636#*#*) and clicked "phone information".

all the VOLTE, WIFI calling, etc. toggles were ON (still grayed out though - probably because it's not a T Mobile locked phone).

i THINK i'll just go for Metro and their $30/mo. 5GB data plan (really $34/mo.). at least this first time around and being i want to deal with an actual person, face to face... considering i'm currently on my wife's plan as a "family member". maybe down the line, switch to Mint at $15/mo. for 4GB data. all online though. no face to face.

Hi justablackberryguy! We are here to help get your Voicemail service back up and running again!

We are glad to hear that your Blackberry Keyone device is able to make/receive calls again after the cellular data settings that were done at our AT&T store. We appreciate you sharing the solution.

Check out how to troubleshoot your voicemail which includes resetting your voicemail password. You'll need to navigate to myAT&T account overview>My wireless>My devices & add-ons>Manage my device>Device options & settings>Reset voicemail password.

Let us know if you want us to submit feedback on your experience at the retail store, we'd be happy to do so, for areas of opportunities and growth.

We hope this helps! Reach back out to us if you have additional questions. Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!
