No option to enter unlock code after putting in new sim card LG M-255

I have unlock codes for my phones.  I put in the new sim card as instructed.

All I get is an error.  No option to enter an unlock code.

Now what?

My phone should be compatible with the new service.  WHY is there NO OPTION to unlock the phone when I turn it on?  Going with consumer cellular.

If you are using an AT&T SIM card with Consumer Cellular you should not get a pop-up to enter the unlock code because the phone will work without being unlocked.

I solved the problem myself.  I found a website that explained how to use a command xxxxx#*mmm# to bring up the unlock screen and then was able to enter the unlock code with the old sim card from att installed in the phone.  Then of course att refused to port my phone number when I  activated the NEW consumer cellular sim card.  Att customer service useless as usual, wasting hours of my time with no resolution.  They are the worst.customer support.ever.

AT&T cannot refuse to Port your number if you have 1.  Active service.  2.  Account number.  3.  Security pin code.

Consumer Cellular is supposed to Port your number. (not AT&T)

Hi. I appreciate you trying to help but in this case you do not know what you are talking about.   The AT&T system must "work" with the consumer cellular system to port the number.  The first number had to be manually  completed by consumer cellular  ( took abou 15 minutes) due to issues on the At&t side.  The second number failed completely and there is a ticket submitted to AT&T to fix the problem.  Maybe it will get fixed by Tuesday,  so I am being held hostage and forced to continue paying for att if I want to keep my number.

If you don't know what you are talking about,  you really should not provide incorrect information.

There is a reason WHY I  believe at&t is THE WORST.  It is based on over 30 hours of phone and chat time getting nothing accomplished.

Perhaps you shouldn’t go to a public forum of fellow customers asking for help I can assure you with 3500 solutions over 8 years in the wireless forums @lizdance40  knows what she’s talking about

@Whatsayulee

Well I'm only quoting the FCC. The FCC is the governing body which rules all cellular service carriers.

   So the FCC is wrong ? 🤔

FCC on wireless number portability

FCC on keeping your number when changing carriers

I'm not saying the fcc is wrong.  I'm saying in my particular case there is a PROBLEM on the AT&T side that is preventing the number from being ported.  They seem to have numerous technical issues.  And their support is, frankly, crap.  There are some very nice people working for them who try to solve issues, but if it isn't in the script then they cannot actually resolve anything.

They could not resolve  issues such as sudden loss of all voice and data services.  Or how to unlock the phones that they sold to me.  I shouldn't have to search on line for solutions to solve problems with their equipment or service.
