Mobile Hotspot

I am considering getting an unlocked phone (non AT&T). Is there any requirement that the phone must be an AT&T in order to be able to have mobile hotspot. I do have a post pay plan that allows mobile hotspot.

No there is no requirement or restriction. However there have been a few phones that have not worked on prepaid.
If the phone was made for another Network, Verizon for example, the hotspot may be programmed to work on their Network only.
