LG K40 Android OS High Data Usage

My phone used 1.34 GB in one morning without me touching it.  On the phone I went to:   Settings/Network and Internet/Data Manager   in order to see what was using all that data.   The data was used by Android OS.  When I touch the Android OS line in Data Manager the phone tells me that a system app called Font Server used 1.34 GB.   When I log in to my ATT account with my laptop the 1.34 GB does not appear to have been charged against my account.

Should I be concerned about this?  There are bits and pieces on the internet and in Android Forums about a Font Server Virus.  On the other hand, I have noticed that with my LG K40  that software updates are being pushed to the phone without me taking any action to download them.  After this incident of high data use I updated the phones software.  The problem has not happened again but it has only been a day since the software upgrade.

Greetings @jmLGK40,

We do understand how alarming it can be to have a High Data Usage especially when you're not the one using any data.

  • What is the current plan that you're on?
  • The LG K40 is it an AT&T branded phone or is it a third-party?

Hi Jacob, Thanks for the reply.

1) I have a 4 GB per month plan with rollover of unused data from last month.

2) My LG K 40 is an ATT branded phone.  I bought it from ATT online and it is marked on the case with ATT  and the ATT globe logo.

Thank you for the update @jmLGK40.

We're happy to hear that updating your device has shown results for now.

If Font Server does this data usage on your device again, then we recommend backing up your LG K40's necessary content.

Once done, a factory data reset should be attempted next.
